Hayley hurt. But not as badly as before they’d knocked her out. Her shoulder throbbed but it was dulled, she didn’t know if it was something about the surgery, she’d been headed into the last she remembered or if it was the pain meds. Right now, she didn’t care. She opened her eyes and found the room dim, which was good because the bright light coming through the open doorway to one side of her bed made her eyes water. Glancing around, the first thing she saw was Warren in a chair beside the bed, his elbows resting on his knees as he stared at the floor. She wanted to reach for him, but he was on her left and as much as that shoulder hurt, she knew better than to move it.
