Ava walked to her dorm room, her footsteps echoing in the quiet hallway. She was exhausted from a long day of classes and was looking forward to crashing on her bed. But as she approached her room, she noticed something was off. The door was locked, and a note was taped to the door.
Ava's heart sank as she recognized Ruby's handwriting. "Meet me in the woods if you want the keys." Ava's eyes rolled in frustration. This wasn't the first time Ruby had pulled a stunt like this.
She took a deep breath, preparing herself for the confrontation ahead. With a determined stride, she headed towards the woods, ready to face Ruby and put an end to this nonsense once and for all. The darkness of the woods loomed before her.
As Ava walked deeper into the woods, the rustling of leaves and snapping of twigs beneath her feet served as a reminder that she was venturing further into the unknown. She had expected to find Ruby alone, waiting for her with some sort of explanation or demand. But instead, Ava began to hear voices - laughter, music, and the clinking of glasses.
Ruby gestured to an empty spot beside her, "Come on, Ava, sit down and join the party!" But Ava hesitated, unsure if she wanted to get involved in whatever was going on. Ruby's grin grew wider, "Come on, it'll be fun! You need to loosen up!" But Ava shook her head, "I'm really tired and I just want to get back to my room."
But Ruby's persistence wore her down, and eventually Ava relented, sitting down on a nearby log. Someone handed her a red Solo cup, "What do you want, Ava? Beer, wine, or something stronger?" Ava replied, "Just a glass of brandy, please." But Ruby intervened, "Oh, come on! You don't want that! Have something real!" And she ordered a few glasses of whiskey from a nearby cooler.
Ava's eyes widened in alarm, "I don't know if that's a good idea..." But Ruby just laughed, "Live a little, Ava! You're not going to let me have all the fun, are you?" The others chimed in, urging her to join in, and Ava felt a surge of peer pressure. She hesitated, then took a tentative sip of the whiskey. It burned her throat, but she tried to play it cool, not wanting to seem like a total lightweight in front of the others.
As the night wore on, another girl suggested playing Truth or Dare, and the group eagerly agreed. Ruby was the first to be dared, and to Ava's surprise, she was asked to dance half-naked in front of everyone. Ruby laughed and obliged, stripping down to her bra and panties, her body swaying to the music as the others cheered and catcalled.
the game continued with each person taking turns, choosing either truth or dare. Ava tried to play along, but her discomfort grew with each round. she wasn't used to this kind of party atmosphere and the whiskey was making her feel light headed.
Then, it was Ruby's turn again and she turned to Ava with a sly grin, "Ava, truth or dare?" Ava hesitated unsure of what to choose. but before she could choose, ruby added "I dare you to kiss Roy!"
Ava's heart sank. Roy was a senior, known for his arrogance and rumored to be a player. She had no interest in kissing him, but the group was already chanting, "Do it! Do it!"
Memories of Ethan began to flood her mind, he was the first and only guy she had ever kissed. she remembered when she first saw him as a senior student who gave her her first tour around the school when she first arrived. Just the thought of that day, tears rolled down her cheeks.
Her face flushed with anger and humiliation. She stood up, her eyes blazing with tears. "how dare you Ruby!" she exclaimed, her voice shaking. "You brought me here to remind me of my pains, isn't it?"
Ruby's grin faltered, and the group's cheers died down. But Ava didn't stick around to see their reactions. Memories of Ethan flooded her mind, and she felt a wave of grief and betrayal wash over her.
She turned and ran into the woods, the darkness enveloping her like a shroud. Tears streamed down her face as she stumbled through the underbrush, her heart pounding in her chest. The sounds of the party grew fainter, replaced by the rustling of leaves and snapping of twigs beneath her feet.
Ava didn't know where she was going; she just knew she had to escape. The woods seemed to close in around her, and she felt like she was drowning in her own emotions. She stumbled over a root and fell hard onto the forest floor, the wind knocked out of her. As she lay there, she let out a sob, the woods echoing back with a haunting silence.
