Custody Hearing

846 Words
Today I sit in front of a judge and for the first time it wasn’t for anything stupid I did wrong. It was for custody of my twin 8 month old little girls. Belle and Bre are my world. I’ve been raising them with the help of my sister Maggie. Their mother is a crack w***e who is living with her pimp. My girls deserve better than that. Ever hear the song Crazy b***h by Buckcherry yeah well that song is her anthem. Whenever she opens her mouth that song just plays in my head, hell it's even her ringtone when she calls my phone. She was so different, she didn’t do drugs, she was getting a degree. Thank god she stayed clean long enough to deliver the girls and they are healthy as can be. I would have killed her if anything happened to them. I hate wearing these damn preppy clothes. The tie feels as if it is choking the s**t out of me. I am only doing this because psycho wants to fuss about needing money. And I want to show the judge that I can take care of these girls. They are my reason for breathing. Plus my lawyer said it would be good. I hate waiting, all I wanted was for the b***h to do is sign the damn papers waving her parental rights. It's not like she really cares about them. All she wants is her next fix. I got to the courthouse a half hour early, just so I can show that this is important to me. Our scheduled time in front of the judge was forty five minutes ago. And the b***h has yet to crawl in here. My lawyer keeps telling me this is a good thing. How I don’t care. I just want this over with. I have club business to attend and I have a client coming in today for a back piece that is going to take hours as it is. “Mr. Jacks, I appreciate that you took the time out your day to show that those little girls are important to you.” Judge Thompson tells me. My reply is as true as can be “ Your Honor, I will do anything for those girls, they are my everything and have been since I held each of them.” The judge looks around the courtroom looking for Shawna’s punk ass attorney, he was a little late. Judge Thompson reads over a few things before addressing the court, “ I have made my decision as to custody of Bella and Bre Jacks. Mr. Jacks it appears that you have had a few run-ins with the law. The state has been to your house and done an inspection of it. The report in front of me states that they could find no issues with your living arrangements.” I continue to hold my breath, I will die then go on a rampage if I lose those girls. “ Looking over the report of Ms. Anderson’s living conditions I can find no inspection results. Mr. Davis, why was no inspection done of your clients living conditions?” the b***h’s attorney swallows hard as he replies to the judge. “ Your Honor, my client Ms. Anderson said that the state never showed up.” The judge’s face turned several shades of red. All I could think about was when Elmer Fudd or Yosemite Sam would get so angry at Bugs Bunny steam would start shooting out their ears. Yeah well that is what Judge Thompson just looked like. I had to bite the inside of my cheek to stop from laughing. “ Mr. Davis,” Judge Thompson starts, “ you didn’t think to check with the state to see if an appointment was even set up. It states here that Ms. Anderson never answered any phone calls or letters. Someone from the state even went there but there was no answer.” Mr. Davis appeared to be very nervous. “ I have only spoken to her a few times in the last month, Your Honor.”He takes a deep breath and continues “ I spoke to her last week, when I reminded her about how important this hearing was. She said that she would get a new appointment and that she would be here. I haven’t been able to reach her all morning.” The judge looked as if he was losing his patience. “Well in light of all this information and the fact Ms. Anderson couldn’t find the importance in coming today, I am granting sole custody to Mr. Jacks and revoking Ms. Anderson’s parental rights. Mr. Davis, your client has one year to show me that she wants to be part of these girls' lives, before I reopen this case. Mr. Jacks, enjoy your daughters.” I could finally breathe a sigh of relief. Thank god she screwed up. “Thank you, Your Honor.” I said to the judge. I shook my attorney’s hand and got the hell out of there.
