“General, you wouldn’t have confirmed to her that we are not from here. What if someone had sent her to come and ask us that question? And now that she already knows, she won’t stop there.” Viruz said.
“You realize that we are in her place and you don’t have right to talk to her that way. She could order the men here to kill us. You better be careful next time Viruz.” Sun warned.
“I'm sorry General. But are we going to drink that?” Viruz asked.
“Drink what?” Jonas asked.
“Are we going to drink the alcohol in this jar?”
“No. I didn’t buy them for drinking purposes. I actually bought it for you so you could use it for your wounds. You need to apply them on your skin. You just need to do it now before your injury gets worst. We need to find a doctor who will see your wound properly treated” Sun said.
Jonas wanted to make a statement but stopped when saw four men initially eating inside the house started walking towards them. While they were coming close, Jonas tension was slightly heightened and he put down his hands just on top of his sword which he had kept on his laps. He was ready for any eventuality. The four men walked past them and opened the door. It whizzed loudly as they went past through it and closed it. Jonas was surprised they didn't attack. He thought those men had come to disposes them of their valuables.
“Gents. Please listen. Since it is confirmed that we are now in Zaphra, I would suggest we go inside and come back here later. Let’s see what we can find and also find a physician for Viruz. What do you say?” Jonas asked.
“I think that’s nice… If we pay then we can move away from here” Sun said. He waved at the plump matron and she came immediately.
“Eh-m. We want to make our payments now” Sun said.
“Paying already? Do you want to leave?” she asked.
“Yes. We will leave now but we will be coming back soon.” Sun said.
“Yes. We will certainly be coming back as soon as possible madam. Your wine was good by the way” Jonas commended.
“Good you say?” she paused and looked at their cups. “I don’t think you stained those cups with these sweet liquor in the jar. How would you know the alcohol was sweet when you didn’t even taste it you sweet-looking lying gentlemen? your cups are dry,” she asked.
It shocked Jonas. He wondered how a woman that looks so unaware of her self was so able to keep record of their activities and was able to tell that he lied when he said that the wine was good. He decided to cover up the question with something else instead of instead countering her.
“You see madam, not all alcohol are worth drinking with a cup. The alcohol you gave us is one of them. Drinking it directly from the jar makes it more sweet and tasty,” Jonas said smiling. Jonas was good at that though and the way he keeps his face while lying could get you confused and you may end up believing him.
“Alright” she hummed. “I think you are a smart man. It’s time you pay. Hmmm!”
“Oh yeah.” Sun said as he puts his hand into his trouser pocket and brought out two silver coins. “Take your payment” Sun said as he stretched out his hands.
She collected it and checked it. She then looked at Sun and snickered revealing all her teeth. “This isn’t enough” she added.
“How so?” Sun asked.
“It's two silver coins if you had drank it here but three silver coins if you are going home with my sweet looking jar” she said as she grimaced and lips locked.
“That isn’t much. You can let it go” Jonas said as he smiled.
She turned to Jonas with a mean facial expression. “You don’t dictate to me how I run business here, I don't run a charity. I don’t run on credit and in case you wonder why here looks very old. It is because people will always look down on it and it makes more people to come here because they think it is cheap. People love cheap things. But most people who drank from this shop without making their complete payment didn’t go back the same. Some lost an eye while some lost their heads” She stopped and laughed very loudly and mischievously. It attracted attention to their table again and some men planned to draw their weapons. Sun quickly tapped her at her hands so she would stop because he noticed she was going to brawl trouble if she continues.
“Okay. You win. We didn’t say we weren’t going to pay. There was no need for the big lecture and the wild laugh.”
“Exactly. We didn’t say that. Maybe I was quoted out of context madam” Jonas said and he quickly dipped his hands into his pocket and brought out one silver coin. “Have it” Jonas said as he gives the woman her remaining coins.
“Good. Good. That is sweet of you gentleman” she said as she touches Jonas' chin. “It's nice doing business with you” she added and left.
“What? I almost pissed my pants now” Jonas said shockingly.
“I told you that woman was trouble but you doubted me Jonas” Viruz said while sitting tight and quiet on his chair.
“I don’t understand her. She’s just too controversial” Jonas added.
“Here isn’t the best place in the world to talk about this. Let’s move outside before someone changes her mind” Sun said as he stands up from his chair.
They all stood up and left the place. Immediately they came outside the house, they saw their horses eating from the few grasses close to the thatched house.
“I have been so anxious. I was thinking about our horses. I’m happy they are still here” Viruz said.
“We haven’t even gotten to the central of the city and am this anxious. I hope this is not how everyone here behaves. Because the way that matron inside this place behaves is just so frightening” Jonas declared.
“Are you for real Jonas? I told you that woman was a freak. You doubted me though but I’m happy you have seen that yourself” Viruz laughed…
“Haha. Do you know what she did last that got me scared? I felt a sudden shock down my spine” Sun said as he laughed too.
“General, if you were scared of that woman then imagine how I felt. I have never been scared like that by a woman all my life” Jonas said as he laughed hysterically..
“I think we better get going. But I think Viruz should clean his wounds with this alcohol” Sun said as he gives him the jar.
Viruz took the jar from him and went to a corner close to the house and raised his brown clothes covering his wrist and the wound. He poured the alcohol on his wrist and brought out a piece of fabric and which he used separately to dry the alcohol from his hands.
After Viruz was through doing this, he stashed in the jar into his bag and mounted his horse and they all rode deep into the city.
