CHAPTER THIRTY ONE
Stella couldn’t believe her luck. She’d graduated from the FBI Academy and had won the Director’s Award. In another week, she’d be starting her dream job at the office in New Haven, taking the first step in a career she’d always longed to follow.
And, best of all, in the meantime, she was spending some quality time with her friend in New Jersey.
She grinned at Rebecca as they headed toward the house, after completing a brisk walk around the nearby park. A brisk walk was Rebecca’s concession to physical exercise. As she’d frequently told Stella, she loved to walk, she loved to hike, but under no circumstances was she prepared to run.
“Not even if something is chasing me,” she joked as they approached the front door. “I’ll rather stand my ground and fight it off!”
