Alexander purposely lets Lucy leave at the same time as he so he could be certain Calvin would not approach her. He cannot be with her all the time since he has to go to Amelia that day. Therefore, he just has to trust that he has worn Lucy out all night last night that she would be forced to sleep the day away and when night time comes, he shall be in the pub to guard her. He would not let Calvin nor Roger meddle especially now that he is so close to his goal.
