Chapter 9 Is this a dream or reality?

1665 Words
The pregnant woman had been hit by a stray bullet in the thigh, and she was trapped underneath two corpses, soaked in sweat. The place where she was shot was badly mutilated, but she still protected her belly with both of her hands.    The masked man walking in front heard her voice and stopped, turning around to face the pregnant woman with his smiling face.    “Please... let me go. I have a baby in my belly...” The pregnant woman sobbed incessantly, shedding both sweat and tears.    The masked man turned his head, walked over to her, pulled the two corpses off of the pregnant woman, and held her upper arm.    Gina and Toni simply pretended to have been shot to death while hugging each other. Toni could sense that Gina was trying hard to slow down her breathing. Gina’s head was facing the windows, while Toni’s head was in her arms, but whenever Toni struggled to get up, Gina would secretly force her back. However, these terrorists, who had come out of nowhere, seemed to have a little sense of sympathy and pulled the pregnant woman up.    The pregnant woman wept with tears of joy, saying, “Thank you, thank you...”    Before the pregnant woman could stand up, she suddenly felt a hard and cold object being pressed against her abdomen.    The pregnant woman's expression changed in an instant.    “Bang bang bang!”    A series of shots fired into the pregnant woman's abdomen. She trembled violently in the firelight, and her flesh and blood spilled across the entire carriage.    Toni and Gina hugged each other even tighter in the flurry of shots. When the firing stopped, the pregnant woman fell down with her eyes wide open. They didn't dare move their bodies, which had become as stiff as stones.    The shooter's white mask was stained with the pregnant woman’s blood, the smile unchanged.    The other four masked men had already walked into the carriage in front, and shots and roars could be heard from higher up the train.    The muzzle of the g*n that the masked man was holding faced downwards, and his boots made a muffled sound on the ground. When he lifted the soles of his boots off the ground, they were stained with a layer of blood.    The carriage was extremely quiet, with blood flowing all over the floor, and not a single person left alive. The corpses overlapped in weird and awkward positions, cramming the aisles and seats.    Toni held her breath, as she knew that the masked man was close to her. He brushed her shoulders with the back of his g*n, curling up some of her hairs and pulling them away roughly. Toni endured the pain and didn't dare move. She and Gina focused all their attention on the masked man, constantly praying. Go away now, go away!    The masked man left.    The tension and stress that Toni and Gina were feeling was suddenly relieved! But they still didn’t dare move their bodies, which were stiff and cold.    Toni was holding Gina, with tears streaming into her arms.    She didn’t know how to thank Gina for sacrificing herself to save her life. If Gina hadn’t been calm and brave, they would definitely not have escaped this unforeseen misfortune.    Just when she wanted to loosen her muscles and bones, she heard a slight sound of metal being rubbed.    A muzzle was pressed against the back of her head.    The masked man aimed his g*n at her.    Time seemed to stand still. Gina suddenly gasped loudly, abruptly standing up and grabbing the masked man's g*n!    “Run!”    Gina screamed at her, and a strong smell of blood filled her nose. Toni almost instinctively jumped up, clinging to the seat and jumping forward.    In a split-second, with a few violent gunshots, a sharp pain penetrated her body, blasting her consciousness to ashes.    ...    “Ahhh!”    Toni suddenly leaped from the back of her seat, her loud scream making Gina jump. Even the pregnant woman and several passengers who were sitting diagonally in front of them turned to look at her in dismay.    “Gina!” Toni was covered in sweat, tightly digging her fingers into Gina's arm. Gina found this painful, but didn’t show it. Instead, she held Toni's hand and said,    “I’m here. Miss Smith. Did you have a nightmare?”    Toni looked at her in terror, with her chest constantly rising and falling. She was still in a state of extreme tension.    Gina looked at her warmly, her soft husky voice soothing her fears.    Toni shifted her gaze from Gina’s face to the rest of the carriage. There were no gunmen or corpses, and everything was normal...    It was a dream.    No one cared about the stranger’s scream, and after seeing that there was nothing going on, everyone looked away. Only the pregnant woman smiled kindly at her.    This smile relieved much of her panic, enabling her heart to gradually calm and return to its original rhythm, gradually dissipating the tension like a solid rock in her chest. She finally calmed herself down, and Gina handed her half a cup of warm water, asking,    “Are you feeling tired after the business trip? Why don’t you take a day off tomorrow? I’ll approve it.”    At this point, Gina actually acted like a leader. Toni slowly drank the water but didn’t respond. The high-speed train slowly stopped and arrived at a small station.    As a few passengers got off the train with their luggage, Toni suddenly felt terrified.    She almost pressed her face against the window and looked out, as something in the unseen world was summoning her to do so.    In the darkness, she could only see a short platform, on which four or five people were walking tiredly toward the exit with their luggage. It was the first time that Toni had taken this high-speed train. She didn’t know where she had passed along the way. The station name board was not far away, but the five blue letters on the white background were facing away from her, making it difficult for her to see them clearly.    Toni stood up and walked forward, lowering her head and looking out as she walked. When she finally saw the words on the station name board, her entire face seemed to freeze, and her muscles went completely stiff.    Santa.    This was the name of this small station.    She swore that she had never heard of this place before, but she remembered that she had seen this word in her dream just now. It was also reflected on the station name board in the same font size.    Why had the scene in her dream become a reality?    If everything progressed according to the dream, after the high-speed train left Santa, Gina would take out her laptop to start some work, followed by a violent shake, flashing lights, and then the gunmen from hell would come in.    Shooting, bullets, blood, death...    “Beep! Beep!”    The sound of the doors closing made Toni tremble all over. Watching the view slowly move backwards outside the window, she was at a loss of what to do.    It was just a dream, right? How could the things that happened in my dream come true in reality? Toni comforted herself. Why did she feel so nervous?    Just as she was about to sit back and reset her emotions, Gina put her laptop in front of her.    It was a Macbook. Exactly the same as in her dream.    When did she take out the laptop?    Toni stood in front of her and didn’t sit down, staring at the laptop, unable to say a word.    “Miss Smith?” Gina was frightened by her expression and spoke out to her carefully.    Toni opened her mouth slightly as if she'd seen a ghost, pointed at her laptop, and made a vague sound in her throat.    “Smith?” Gina stood up swiftly. Just then, the carriage shook violently and the lights began to flash!    There was a roar of screams in the carriage. Gina hurriedly grabbed the back of her seat so she didn’t fall over. As the sky and earth shook, dismay or incomprehension spread over the passengers' faces. However, Toni stood still, as if she could not feel all of the commotion. Gina looked at her with a puzzled look, and saw the glass door at the junction between the carriages violently opening, followed by five masked men slowly walking inside.    Panic burst out, and gunshots shook the entire world.    Is this a dream or reality?    The smell of blood, the pain, and the suffocation were real. This was a keenly-felt pain, so how could it be a dream?    But how could she explain the deja vu happening right in front of her eyes?    Toni thought about this as her eyes became round with fear, and she suddenly became unable to move. Gina shielded Toni’s body, and blood slowly streamed from her beautiful lips. As her eyes went red and her entire face was trembled, she uttered three words with all her might,    “I am sorry...”    Toni wanted to tell her not to apologize, because this was not her fault.    This business trip, this high-speed train, and this terrorist attack that killed them seemed to have been written in the script long ago. It was destiny.    Even the sense of relief before death was exactly the same.    Before her consciousness completely disappeared, a thought suddenly struck her.    Perhaps she was trapped in some kind of cycle.    She kept repeatedly dying over and over again, and she would forget it every single time she woke up.    Why was this happening to her?    If what she thought was true, then next time she woke up, would she remember all the details of her death and be able to avoid this catastrophe?    She must remember...    Business trip... high-speed train... small station... gunmen...
