“Great work today guys everything looks great,” I said happily “Yes, know everyone go home and get plenty of rest for tomorrow's dance,” Vice President Vincent said. Everyone clapped happily at all the hard work they accomplished. “Have a great night everyone bye?” I said sitting back down. “Hey, Jasmine you coming,” Sophie asked “no not yet I have the dance king and queen votes to finish counting,” I said smiling weakly. “You shouldn't overwork yourself Jas,” Malakie said worriedly “I'm fine really Kiki I'm almost done,” I said trying to convince him. “I'll stay with her” Sophie offered “aw Sophie I can't ask you to do that.” I said “I know but we're having a sleepover before the dance anyways remember. So It’d be stupid to split up” Sophie smiled “yeah, I guess since someone’s at least here with her,” Malakie said defeated. “Alright I'll see y'all at home then,” Malakie said leaving with Jack, Luke, Dorthy, and Sophie's kid siblings Jason, Sally, and Jake. “Bye everyone,” I said waving to them. “Oh, and Malakie can you take Jason, Sally, and Jake home for me?” Sophie sweetly asked “sure no problem, I'll see ya later.” Malakie agreed “thanks.” Meanwhile, While me and Sophie where busy finishing the counting of the king and queen votes we were non stop talking until “oh I finished that new song I told you about the first one I showed you” I said "really that's great" Sophie exclaimed “I loved the first version you did it was so pretty and moving with great rhythm so I bet the final is much better” “I'm glad you liked it” I said smiling, “Wait! so can I hear it know” “um sure I guess” I agreed nervously? Quickly after we got dressed we woke up Malakie. Before we all ran down to the school to meet up with Jack and Jeena to see everything that had happened. “Please keep back this is a secured scene no citizens are allowed.” An officer was saying through a microphone standing on a step “what the heck is going on” Sophie yelled over the noise. “I don’t know but it's bad,” Malakie said “I can't see anything,” Jack said. “Just follow me” I groaned walking up to a younger policeman who looked to be in his twenties. “Hello, sir my name is Jasmine Kight I'm the Student Council President of this here established school and these are my fellow Council members. May I ask what's going on here on behalf of the school” I said in my most professional voice possible. “Ah! Yes well, there seems to have been a fire that started late last night. Possibly around ten maybe eleven last night. We're currently trying to find the cause or culprit.” The man said uniformly “around ten or eleven but my Council group were here till nine thirty. My friend Sophie and I were here doing work here till ten but there was no fire then and no other person in the school at that time. At least from what I could see” I shared “hmm that seems very odd.” The man said obviously thinking of what to do. Until another man's voice sounded behind the young officer causing him to salute. The man who walked out of the gym was an older gentleman. He had grey and white hair with a blue hat covering the top of his head. His black and white uniform shone with more medals than the younger officer. “At ease lieutenant” the older man laughed “sir yes sir,” the younger officer said lowering his arm. “So is everything alright here lieutenant” “yes sir although this young lady has given me some very valuable information that I think might help us in the closing of this case.” The young officer informed me. “Is that so?” the older man said, looking at me. My posture straightened even more “sir yes sir” the lieutenant said strongly. “And who might you be young lady” “sir my name is Jasmine Knight I am the Student Council President of this fine school,” I said offering my hand with respect. “Well it's nice to meet you, Miss Kight my name is Captain Charles Walker,” he said taking my hand and shaking it returning the respect. “Please just call me Jasmine Mr. Walker,” I said letting go “Charles will do” he insisted. “Yes sir,” I said respectfully “now my lieutenant here said you could possibly help us.” “Yes, sir if I can help I will” I explained “well then come on across,” he said holding the yellow tap. “Sir Charles may my friends come with me. They were here yesterday as well and can help me. I know it's not my place to be asking a favor but I need them to come along.” I insisted “Sure if it helps” Sir Charles agreed “c’mon guys quit standing there and come on,” I said going under the tape. “Wow my sister is amazing” Malakie whispered to Sophie and Jack “yea she is and a little scary don’t you think?” Jack said as they went over the tape following Jasmine and the captain. “Yea that's Jasmine for ya” Sophie commented. All of them laughed quietly in agreeance as they walked under the tape and into the building. Their eyes widening at the scorch marks from the fire expanding and increasing “guys quit looking and c’mon” I said strongly making Malakie, Sophie, Jeena, and Jack hurry over to us. The general finally stopped at a table of debris showing us the things they had collected “this is all we have recovered so far it's not much to go on but it's what my team has found so far. We don't know yet what all these things are and we won't know until our scientist gets here but we are still searching for anything unordinary to help verify how the fire started. What caused it and how much exact damage was taken.” he stated, “I see well for starters I can tell you this is the metal casing for the queen and king votes, and this is some of the paperwork we did yesterday.” I said to myself turning around “that's the flower arrangements, the tables were there with the chairs surrounding them each about four to a table, the tree was there it was about twenty-five by thirty-five foot, and the banner was up there over the stage. Although it is now burnt to a crisp then there was DJ equipment over there next to the stage but it's probably all destroyed now. So you probably can't help salvage that and if what your lieutenant out front said was true and the fire did start around ten maybe eleven I'll half to say for a fact, that it was not ten because Sophie and I were here till ten and there was no one to be seen. So then it had to be after that time or at eleven when the person knew no one would be here to see them. So if we were to say the fire started at let's say two hundred Fahrenheit although a fire's temperature is already at four hundred eighty Fahrenheit. When a piece of paper ignites then it would gradually grow hotter and hotter to was something in here ignites and explodes. Which was probably the extinguisher but it would have put out some, wait no not if it had already spread to other stuff like the banner and decorations but then what else exploded” I said to myself looking around “AH THAT'S IT! The NFPAs Standard on Combustible Metals or any metal in a fire with enough form can be combustible and/or explosible’ so the medal boxes some of the tables they could have expanded enough to basically explode. Then the ornaments on the tree got hot enough to burn or ignite the other decorations and since the tree has a lot of sap, which in fact can also explode. Which could also cause The flames to flare up out of control sending sparks flying across the room. Causing the fire to worsen. So when the firemen finally arrived it was too late to help anything but I don't get why anyone would do this. Everyone was excited about the dance and then there's the matter of why the sprinklers didn't go off” I said talking to myself “does she always do this” Mr. Charles asked Malakie in a whisper “eh, sometimes when it interests her or if it's a mystery like this one. It's actually pretty cool but it doesn't happen much since she's a shy kid she usually hides it much better” Malakie explained “hm interesting” Charles expressed “oh excuse me for not introducing myself I'm Malakie Knight” Malakie introduced “so you're her brother” Charles asked “yep, I'm her older brother” “older! But she seems so much older with how mature she acts no offense” Charles explained. “Yea I get that a lot but no, I'm actually older by a year but she's more experienced than me with all this stuff so that's why she seemed older, cuz she knows her stuff” Malakie explained “interesting” “yep she's amazing though” Malakie admitted “yea she is, but you're her brother so go snape her out of it or she’ll split herself in two trying to figure it all out herself” Sophie barked. “yea guess I should, shouldn't I” he groaned “GO” Sophie yelled making Malakie jump forward to go snap me out. “Sorry, Mr. Charles! If I didn't tell him no one would have snapped her out of that trance she puts herself in” Sophie apologized “no it's quite alright Miss…” “Oh! Where are my manners? I'm Sophie, Sophie Macarthur. I've been Jasmines’ best friend since childhood.” Sophie explained “well it's nice to meet you, Miss Macarthur,” Mr. Charles said happily. “You can just call me Sophie I'm not for all those formalities” Sophie smiled “ah I see...and who might you be young man,” Mr. Charles asked gesturing towards Jack. “Oh me, sorry sir my names I'm Jack Williams,” Jack said “wait, son of Dr. Patrick Williams,” Charles asked, “yes sir he's my father, you know him?” Jack asked “yes I've known him since middle school. He's also helped me when I've been sick. I've heard a lot about you” “I hope they do good things” Jack laughed nervously. “Sorry about that Sir Charles I tend to do that sometimes,” I said Malakie and I walked up to Sir Charles, Sophie, and Jack. “No it's fine in fact you’ve helped us out quite a lot" “general your step-sons here, he says he has something from his mother for you.” An officer said “oh send him in” Charles said “yes sir” he said leaving “yo Charles, Mom said you forgot your lunch, she sent me down here since I was on my way to work so what's going…..on” we all froze seeing Luke come into the building holding an army blue lunch box. “Thank you Luke Ma' boy tell your mom I said thank you and when you see her tell her I might be working late tonight in this case so I won't be home on time,” he said “Yea yea! Now what's going on here and why are y'all here” Luke asked looking at us “oh! This is Jack Williams, Sophie Macarthur, Malakie Knight and his sister Jasmine Knight'' Charles introduces. “Yea I know who they are, I asked why are they in here, in a crime scene,” Luke asked seriously “they are actually helping me and quite a good bit for that matter” Charles complimented. “Are you sure it's safe I mean you did say it was a CRIME! Scene after all which means this was planned” Luke hinted “hmm you have a point and it was shortly after miss Jasmine and Sophie had left.” “WHAT! Are you serious! Then they certainly don't need to be in here. Are you an i***t you said you’d be more careful with your job for my Moms sake. THIS! This isn't being careful” Luke said angrily “hey don't be so rude to your stepfather he was only thinking of what's best to close this case” I said stepping up “yea but he might be endangering you guys.” Luke said arguing back “yeah so what I chose to come here and help,” I said, “yea I think we all did.” Sophie said stepping in to calm down the tension between us. “Yea whatever I'm goin' to work see y'all later,” Luke said angrily storming off. “Sheesh I swear I can't even do a thing without him putting his nose in my business,” I said aggravated. “Sorry about that sir we didn't mean to cause any trouble between y’all” Malakie apologized “yeah we're really sorry sir,” I said apologizing too “no it's not your fault. You all have given me all I need to close this case except for the suspect but he's right. We can't have y'all doing that for us so y'all should go home and get some sleep” Mr. Charles said. “Yes sir but the other students will be wondering when the dance can happen. What do I say to them,” I asked concerned. “Hmm well obviously you will half to postpone the dance as for the details I can't help with that” Charles said sadly. “Understood thank you for everything you’ve done for us,” I said thankful “I should be thanking you know you kids have a good rest of your day,” he said “you to bye Mr. Charles,” Sophie said returning the gesture. Walking back out into the rowdy crowd of people we bump into the Vise Student Council President Vincent. “Ah Jasmine you're here I'm glad, do you know what's going on,” he asked sighing uneasily. “Well first off we can't have the dance today...” I said being stopped mid-sentence “what why after all that work why can’t...” “no, let me finish” I interrupted stopping him “--Sigh--the reason we can't have it today is because the building inside was set on fire and everything's ruined.” I explained angrily “what do you mean set on fire as in red hot flames?” he said confused. “Sadly yes so we can't have the dance today and we'll need at least a few days to re-prepare,” I said. “Well this sucks we did all that work just for it to be ruined by some idiots,” he said sadly aggravated. “I know and it makes me mad too that someone would do something like this,” I said angrily. “But we can't do anything about it now," he said finishing my sentences. "So what do we do now? I mean everyone was ready” Vise pres asked, “I know, I know, but the thing we need to think of right now is what we're going to do to solve this problem,” I admitted. “Yea and the first thing we need to do is find a large enough place for the whole school” he stated. “Oh well, I may be able to help with that” Sophie popped in. “What you thinking Sophie,” I asked happily. “Well, there's a building that my Mom rented out for a get-together. Something with some adults, but she won't need it till like after next month she rented it now so she could clean it.” Sophie explained “what type of building are we talking about” Vice President asked. “Well it's two maybe three stories. It's about eighty-seven thousand six hundred forty square feet wide. There are about four bathrooms and a nice entrance. In short, it looks good. It just needs a little more cleaning.” Sophie described “that sounds great but do you think your Mom will go for it Sophie,” I asked concerned. “I hope she will” Sophie admitted “Ok, then it sounds like we have a place but what about the time,” President Vincent asked. “Well y'all need time to re-prepare everything. Re-make decorations, get a new tree, new flowers, not to mention a new DJ” Jack stated. “Yeah and y'all will need money for that the school’s budget won't be able to take care of all these new preparations so we will need a sponsor” Malakie suggested. “I'll pay for it,” I said plainly. “WHAT! You won't be able” Sophie said “Yes I can, I've been saving money since I was like seven and I have multiple jobs. Which I saved almost every penny I made since I don't half to use it for...anything, but I can pay for it” I smiled “you sure” Malakie asked “YES! For goodness sakes I can do some things” I breathed. “Ok so we have a place and the money now we need to figure out a time” Vincent stated worry. “Yea a time, well it can't be on a weekday since everyone has school so that only leaves the weekends” I suggested. “Unless we wait for the actual holiday” Malakie suggested “no, no one will want to wait that long,” Sophie said. “How about at the end of this week this Saturday” Jack suggested “that...I think could work” Vise President admitted thinking "we’ll need to pull double time then" Sophie explained. “Ok, then it's settled let's have it at Sophie's place if her mom says yes, I'll go deal with the decorations and DJ. Vice President I'll need you to redo the paperwork I asked of you yesterday is that ok." "Sure thing anything to help" he answered. "Jack, Malakie I need y'all to find us a tree and some help if possible. Now Sophie, call your mom and when you get your answer from her let me know ok and…” --RING-- RING RING-- RING--. “Sorry, guys I should take this. Were good with directions if not ask Vise Pres then update me alright...thanks,” I said hurriedly. “Jasmines been getting a lot of calls lately don't y'all think,” Sophie asked “yea but maybe it's work I mean she has seven jobs after all” Malakie said. “Yeah but I don't know she just seems more, you know off lately ya know,” Sophie said Jack staring off watching Jasmine walking off talking on the phone. (Important calls, going to Dads office, passing out, what's going on with you that you're not telling us, Jasmine) Jack thought “I'm sure she's fine guys,” “I'm not so sure about that guys,” Jack said wearily. “What do you mean Jack,” Sophie asked “well we've all already noticed she's been weird lately right” Jack suggested “yea” Malakie agreed. “Well I saw Jasmine at my Dad office the other day” Jack explained “but you're dad’s a doctor,” Sophie said confused. “Yea I know, I tried asking my dad what was going on but he wouldn't tell me because of patient confidentiality,” Jack said annoyed. “Maybe she's looking for another job” Malakie suggested “as a patient” Jack said. “Well I'm sure she's fine and she'll tell us when she's ready so let's just get to work,” Sophie said, “yea I don't want my sister to get mad.” Malakie nervously said the thought making them all run to work.
