Chapter 4: Roslyn's POV

877 Words
I laid on the floor, the room suffocating. The smell of burning candles, hungry men clothed as reasonable. I laid on the platform, my hands held together by iron chains that pierced into my school anytime I tried to free myself. My whole body was in pain from all the punishment and humiliation I had to go through in the dungeon, but I had nowhere to go. Today will decide my fate. Not that it would be any better. It would be moving from one hell to another. Dozens of wolves sat around me in rows, their wolf scent obvious in the air. Blue eyes, black eyes, golden eyes, they all stared at me like I was a form of object that they wanted badly. Another item to add to their collection. “Gentlemen,” the auctioneer's voice cut through my thoughts. “Tonight, we present a very exquisite item. A woman of noble birth, yet broken. She would be sold to the highest bidder. Yours for the taken.” Laughter filled the whole room. I felt mocked and humiliated at the same time. Was this how my life had turned out? I wasn't a princess, a mate. I wasn't even worth being called a human. I was an object in their eyes. A tall man with scars on his face rose from his seat and cleared his throat. “I'll start at ten thousand gold,” he said, with a mocking smirk on his face while he stared down at me. Ten thousand? That's how much I was valued. Maybe I could plead with Dane to forgive me, for him to step in, but I knew he wouldn't. I heard another voice. “ Twenty thousand,” My wolf howled out. She wanted to break free, but I pressed my hands against the chain. I wasn't going to give them the satisfaction they craved. I wouldn't. “Thirty thousand,” another alpha voice rang. Another said forty. The number rose as different Alpha's called their prices. I tried to hold my sobs. My knees were weak and trembling. I wanted to disappear from here. From the world entirely. “FIFTY THOUSAND,” the auctioneer announced. This was my life now, that's how much I was worth in the eyes of everyone here. “Two hundred thousand,” I heard someone say. The room went silent. I turned to look at who it was. Everyone's eyes were on him before mine got to him. He was seated at the shadowed corner of the hall. His presence was commanding even from a distance. I couldn't quite see his face properly. Tears welled up in my eyes, so everything was completely blurry. The other alphas gasped, some chuckling nervously, others looked in disbelief. The auctioneer blinked, he was probably taken by surprise. “Two hundred thousand gold! An impressive bid, sir!” I was confused. Two hundred thousand? I couldn’t understand what was going on. My body was filled with fear and confusion. Why was someone bidding so high for me? Was this better or worse? I caught a glimpse of him, and it was the same man as before. He leaned back, his eyes still on me, and a smile formed on his lips. My wolf sensed danger. There was power radiating from him, and it was suffocating. Another Alpha wanted to top his bid, but he raised his bid. The room went silent again. Here I was, being offered as if my very existence could be bought with gold. The auctioneer cleared his throat. “Do I have Three Hundred thousand?” No one moved. With all the tension going on with the bidding, the silver-eyed man's gaze never left me. I felt a shiver running through my spine. My wolf was howling in protest. What does he want? I thought to myself. Is he saving me, or is this something worse? “Let the record show,” the auctioneer said, “that the highest bid stands at one hundred thousand gold, by the gentleman in the corner.” The hall became restless. Whispers began to circulate, but my mind wasn't on them. My focus was on the man by the corner, the chains on my wrist and the fear that was all over me. He rose from his seat, walking towards the front. Each of his movements commanded some kind of fear. He moved towards me, his eyes fixed on mine. I tried to look away but I couldn't. “You,” he said softly. It was almost like a whisper but loud enough for me to hear. “Are you harmed?” Harmed? I blinked. My body was in pain, my wrists were bleeding, my pride shattered. I didn't give him a response. He leaned closer to me, his eyes scanned the bruises and cuts that covered my body. “Interesting,” he murmured. The words caught me off guard. “Very interesting.” Something about him was wrong, yet I couldn’t look away. The auctioneer finally called, “Sold! To the gentleman for three hundred thousand gold!” My chains clinked together as the guards led me d Own from the platform. My legs were weak, my head was spinning, and my heart kept pounding.
