After a few days, Maisie feels it is safe to go on their adventure. She and the boys are packing. Dora only packs some vodka then she is ready to leave. Old Daisy is packed to the brim. Rufus and Stew decided to sit in the back. At least then, they will not see when they die. Maisie sits in front with Dora driving. Dora is already half-drunk and is driving fast. They have a long way to go. Lake Tahoe is far from them. They stop in a human town and go to an antique dealer. Maisie gets out and takes three of the old coins with her. The antique dealer can not believe what he says in front of him. "I will give you 300 for the coin," He says to Maisie. "Are you crazy? The coin is old. 300 is not enough," Maisie says. "Okay, let's make it 400 then." "Nope, give my coin. I will go to someone else," Maisie says angrily. "Five hundred thousand, and that is my final offer. I also need to make a profit," Maisie's mouth falls open, damn she thought he was talking about three hundred dollars. Obviously, he was talking about three hundred thousand dollars. She is surprised. "Cash, take it or leave it," The dealer says. "Fine, but I am still not happy," Maisie says, pretending not to be happy. She takes the money in the briefcase he handed her after they counted it. It took a long time. "What took you so long?" Stew asks. "Dora passed out again," Rufus says. "I was counting the money with the antique dealer," Maisie says. "How much did we get for those three coins?" Stew asks. "Five hundred," Maisie says with a smile. "He gave you five hundred dollars. It is a ripoff. Those coins must be worth much more," Stew says, and Maisie takes out the briefcase. "Five hundred thousand, that is," Maisie says. "Did I hear five hundred thousand dollars?" Dora says, waking up from her drunken sleep. "Yes, mother Dora. We are rich!" Maisie says. "Yeah, it can bring us far," Mother Dora says as she starts up the car. None of them sees the SUV that is following them. They are all in good spirit, and as they drive out of town. Mother Dora downs her bottle of vodka. She is driving fast and all over the road. "What the hell is that old drunken witch doing? Is she trying to kill my mate!" Markus shouts. He is a nervous wreck, just looking at the old witch driving. He knows his mate is inside of the old car. "Calm down, bro. I am here. I will keep them safe," Norma says. But Markus is grabbing the steering wheel, and his knuckles are white. "I still don't like thinking my mate is in danger," He says as they see the car driving fast around a sharp corner. In the car, Maisie is holding on to her seat for dear life. Holly hell. She swears Dora is going to kill them one of these days. Old Daisy is not in the best condition as well. "Maybe we should buy a new car," Maisie says. She thinks if they buy a new car, she will drive and all their lives will be much safer. "Old Daisie never let me down. I am not selling her!" Dora says. "We don't have to sell her. We can keep her in a safe place and get her when we come back from our adventure. Besides, I think we can get more stuff on a pickup truck. Maybe the treasure is big. Where will we load it all?" Maisie says, and Dora starts thinking. The girl has a point. "Okay, in the next town, we will buy a new pickup truck with back seats. I can sleep, and the three of you can take turns driving," Dora says. She will be happy to sit in the back drinking while they do all the driving. Maisie, Stew, and Rufus are relieved. They can do without Dora's driving. Luckily the next town is not far away, and they reach it safe and sound. Maisie got her license before her parents died so she could buy the truck in her name. She quickly goes to the dealer and gets a brand new pickup for a reasonable price. They also arrange for Daisie to be stored in a storage room and pay for six months upfront. They do not know how long this adventure will last. Maisie hoops it will not last long as she wants to go back and save her pack. They decide to stay for the night in the town. Dora has seen a casino, and she stumbles her way to the casino. She loves playing the slots. Maisie gave her ten thousand dollars and told her to enjoy herself. The three wolves book into the human hotel. They order a lot of food as they are hungry. They have booked the top floor and are eating in the tiny dining area in Maisie's room. "You think the treasure will bring us a lot of money, Maisie?" Rufus as while chewing on a chicken leg. "Well, if the coins are worth so much, the treasure must be worth much more," Maisie says she is eating a steak. "I am in heaven," Stew says as he bites into a lamb chop. He is eating, and the grease is dripping from his chin. Maisie hands him a napkin to clean his mouth. They eat for a while in silence. They don't think Dora will be back tonight as she sometimes goes out and drinks the whole night. They leave her some food. They are full and lazy. "I think I am going to burst," Rufus says, rubbing his tummy. "You better not burst in here. We all know how your bursts can stink!" Stew says. "Isn't it time to take your daily shower, Rufus?" Maisie reminds Rufus. He does not feel like showering, but he got himself into this, and now he has to take a shower a day. He gets up and walks with a long face to take a bloody shower. "I should not have told them I take a shower every day," Rufus thinks to himself. He is not feeling like a shower. When he gets into his bathroom, he sees there are an oversized bathtub and bubble bath. He will take a bath tonight. It may be fun for a change. He runs a bath for himself and puts in a lot of bubble bath. Rufus gets into the big tub and lays back, relaxing. He can get used to this kind of life. He can not believe it. In a few weeks, they went from rags to riches. When Rufus comes back, he smells good. Maisie and Stew stare at him in disbelieve. "Who are you, and what did you do to Rufus," Maisie asks. Stew bursts out laughing. "Hey, it is not funny. There are big bathtubs in our rooms with bubble bath as well," Rufus says, and Maisie and Stew rush to their bathrooms to take a bath. They have not taken a bath for a long time. Only shower, and at the pack, it was usually a cold shower as they were not allowed to take warm showers. After all of them took a bath and sat in their pajamas, they talked about the treasure and how they would go back to the pack and save them. Maisie misses her mother and father, and she knows Rufus and Stew do as well. Soon they are all sleepy. They are clean and full. Maisie gets up to go to her room. She does not know her mate is in the same hotel as they are. He wants to be close to her, and he asks for his sister's help. "Can you put a sleeping spell on the three wolves?" He asks Norma. "Why?" Norma asks. "I want to hold my mate tonight, just this once. I promise I will not mark her without her permission," Markus begs his sister. Norma feels sorry for her brother and agrees. She puts a sleeping spell on the three young wolves and opens the door to Maisie's room for Markus. She knows how he must feel, wanting to be close to his mate. The mate he has been waiting for for so long. Markus walks into the room and looks at his mate. She is not so scrawny anymore. She is beautiful. He looks at her sleeping face and goes to lie next to her on his bed. He feels her moving. She puts her arms about his waist. "Mate!" She whispers in her sleep. He is taken aback a bit. He has to be strong and fight his wolf. His wolf wants to mark his mate, but he can not allow it. He wants her permission, and he wants her to give herself to him out of her own free will. Markus holds his mate and falls asleep next to her. He is a light sleeper, and he hears the old drunken witch stumbling in early the following day. He guesses it is time for him to leave. As he walks out of Maisie's room, the old witch is waiting for him. Her hands are crossed in front of her chest, and although she is drunk, she looks at him with one eye. "What are you doing here, young man?" She whisper. Or attempt to whisper. "Sheesh, you will wake her up. I only needed a few hours with my mate. The one you hid from me back in your town," Markus whispers. "Sheesh, you talk too loudly. My head is spinning. You better leave before she wakes up. I don't want them to know you are following us," Dora whispers slurs. She stumbles a bit and tries to make it to her room. "You knew I was following you?" Markus asks in a whisper. "Of course, I did. I am a drunk, not stupid," Dora attempted to whisper. Markus and Dora hear Maisie's moves, and he quickly leaves. Dora stumbles to her room. "Mother Dora, is that you?" Maisie asks. She is still half asleep. She had the most beautiful dream. She dreamt her mate was holding her all night long. Her room even smells like him—Stong white creamy coffee. Wait! What?! Why is her room smelling of her mate? Did he follow her, and did he slip into her room and hold her all night. She feels the back of her neck. She is relieved there is no mate mark there. She must have just dreamed it all, but why is her room smelling like him? She is confused. She smells herself, and she smells like him. She jumps up and runs to Dora's room. Dora is passed out, and not even an earthquake will wake her up now. Maisie is worried. She can not go anywhere now. Not until Dora wakes up. She will need Dora's help to hide her scent and change her into a boy again. She is sure he is following them. She feels like coffee now—Stong white creamy coffee. She goes into the tiny kitchen area and makes herself a cup of coffee. Damn mate! She wishes he would leave her alone for a while. She needs to find the treasure. After she takes her pack back, they can be together. Stew and Rufus smell the coffee and come into the kitchen area of Maisie's room. Maisie looks upset. She is not smiling this morning. Rufus looks at her and smiles. "You smell different this morning," Rufus says. "Yes, something is smelling different about you," Stew says. "It is my bloody mate. I think he found us. I woke up this morning after having a dream of him holding me all night, and this morning my whole room was smelling like him," Maisie says, upset. "Oh s**t, we need to leave," Stew says. "We can't because mother Dora is still passed out, and I need her to disguise me again as a boy and take away my smell," Maisie says. She feels so angry. Damn mate-bond bullshit. They did. It had to happen now when she was on an adventure and so close to saving her pack.
