Chapter Nine: Visions (Part 2)
"Doctor Mealine, we are losing him. He has lost a lot of blood. We require blood, urgently." A doctor standing next to supposedly Dr. Mealine, replied in a composed yet frightened voice.
Did my father had a penchant for having near-death experiences? Why does he always seem so willing to dump his life right into the trash?
"I'll see his family and discuss the problem with them. Until then, Afron, I'll hand it over to you." Doctor Mealine said, as she removed her gloves and mask throwing them in the bin nearby and exiting the room.
She spoke out loud, "Mr. Fordens' family," staring at the individuals occupying the chairs outside the room.
Grandfather, uncle, aunt, and grandmother got up from their seats and surrounded the doctor when they heard the doctor's voice.
"Doctor, is he all right?" Grandfather questioned in a steady, composed voice. But the concern for his son that etched deep in his bones was reflected through his glossy red eyes.
"While Mr. Forden is now a bit stable, we need to arrange blood. His blood type is O negative, which is extremely uncommon on Pheonar and not found in many people. You must be aware of this issue as well. As it has always been an issue preventing us from saving folks like Mr. Forden." She replied as she turned to face granddad.
Wow... It resembles a plot from one of those cliché romance books sold here on Earth. But that was besides the point, right now. Here my dad was dying, yet again. I wonder how my adventurous and life-loving mother was paired with my father who's always on the verge of dying.
Opposites might attract after all.
"What is the issue after all!? Didn't we pay a huge sum for the operation?" Grandmother yelled at the physician. I sighed involuntarily watching my grandmother's antics. Dad always treated his stepmother as his own mother but here she was worrying about the money spent more than his son who was swinging between life and death.
"I advise you, Mrs. Forden, to take a deep breath. The place where you are standing at is a hospital, not your mansion. We are trying our very best but the problem is that his blood is O negative and we don't have that blood in our blood bank. Do any of you have a blood type that is O negative? You're all his family, right? If not, please arrange it within the next two hours or we won't be able to save him. Excuse me." The doctor excused herself and departed the area, making her way to her cabin.
Where was mom? Why didn't she arrive yet? Even though I know my dad won't pass away just yet but anxiety nonetheless crept up on me as questions flooded my mind.
"Mark, we need to get the blood. Take action now! Dial the nearby blood banks. Alixa, you too try asking your relatives. I'll try to come up with a solution as well. We must come up with a solution." In an effort to rescue his son, grandfather remarked in a breathless voice as he hurried to make his way to wherever he might find blood to save his son's life. However, the next comment he heard made him halt in his tracks.
"Dad, I'm too worn out right now to keep making calls to people. Sorry." Aunt said and she walked to the seat as she sat down, leaned back into the seat and closed her eyes.
What a great sister-in-law! It makes sense why mum struggled to get along with these individuals. They aren't even humans.
"Dad, we're all worn out. Brother is to blame for his decision to use the highway. We are all returning home." Being the selfish person he was, Uncle said. What has my father not done for his little step-brother, yet here was this man, expressing such words for the man he ought to have revered.
"He ought to be gone. Anyway, he's not my son. I was merely concerned about the money being thrown away on this operation." Grandmother said, as they all left together. Grandfather's knees were quaking and his face had a defeated look.
Three more people to add to my 'black notebook'...
Probably unsure of what to do at this point. Or, how can he save his son? Tears streamed down from his eyes. He was about to fall when he was caught in a pair of hands, breaking his fall. As he glanced up, instead of looking into the icy eyes of a businesswoman's he stared into a daughter's loving eyes. She shook her hand after smiling at him and wiping away his tears with the palms of her hands.
My mom was now finally here, where she was needed. Where she should be.
"Doctor said he lost a significant amount of blood. O negative. We only have two hours, and they don't have it in the bank." His voice was trembling. "Save him, please. I beg you."
"Please, dad. Take a seat first." Listening to his daughter's word, grandfather sat down still shivering.
"I'll make everything alright. I promise." Her words reassuring him as she was about to leave he held her wrist.
"Why should you help a man who hurt you beyond measures?" Hearing the words mom turned around as she smiled at him.
"Who said sad that I was helping him?"
"B... bu... but." He stuttered as if afraid my mom wasn't going to save my father. But mom kept her other hand onto his hand which was holding her wrist and smiled at him.
"I am helping myself."
He had his hand on her wrist, but she took it off and put it on his thigh. She assured him by looking into his eyes that everything would be okay before leaving him to go to the doctor's cabin. As he watched her leave and eventually vanish from his view, tears began to fall from his eyes.
I observed as my mom walked into the doctor's cabin. "Doctor Mealine." She said. As Doctor Mealine instantly stood up to greet her, " Good afternoon, ma'am." She said. Mom acknowledging her greeting, said,"Good afternoon Doctor Mealine. My blood group is O negative."
"Yes?" Doctor Mealine said as she stood there completely perplexed as to why my mother had informed her about her blood type.
"I am here to donate blood for Mr. Aren Forden."
My mother said those words, as everything immediately began to fall apart. The screen shattered to pieces and I was completely enveloped in darkness. My body felt sluggish. As I felt hard to keep my eyes open. But, just then I abruptly heard a familiar, lovely voice.
"Inez... Come back to me, please." I lost control of my body and it came crashing down to the black ground. James was worried about me.
No... I can't stay here.
I had to go. I needed to go. I needed to open my eyes from this dream and return to his side. The ground beneath me broke into two, and a tear ran down my cheek. As I could only utter one syllable, before I fell into the abyss, not knowing when will I be able to see him again.
"Mom..."
