February 19th 2020.
The allied troops were victorious in the war against North Korea. The soldiers could now finally return home to their families and loved ones. After months of anxious waiting, that day was the day Daniel would return, like he promised. Sandra heard a knock on the door. In sheer excitement she ran down the stairs and swung open the front door. Instead of finding Daniel, she was greeted by a strange man in a military uniform. He handed her a box that was wrapped in brown packing paper. Stuck to the package was a folded note. She was a little worried by the package, because she did not know what to make of it. The strange man then apologized, put his head down and walked away. The note read:
“To my dear Sandra
I made a promise to come home, and I am sure that you are going to hold me to that promise but unfortunately I cannot fulfil it. Every war has its costs and I guess that I was included in the price to be paid. But as much as you may not see me, I will always be there with you. I love you and I will never stop loving you. I cross my heart...
Daniel”
Sandra cried hysterically. She did not even get out of bed for the next few days. People stopped by but they always got no reply at the door. Then one day, while lying in bed, she realized that it was time to pull herself together because throwing away her life will not bring anybody back. After getting cleaned up, she saw the unopened package sitting on the table. After working up enough courage to open up the box, Sandra looked inside to find a locket that had the word ‘Infinity’ engraved with a picture of Daniel and her. Sandra then found a little black box inside, when she opened it up; it was the engagement ring that he had promised. She put on the ring and began crying, but crying with a sense of closure. “I do Daniel! I do.”
The End.
