Divya dropped her handbag on the kitchen counter the moment she got home.
"That man is impossible," she complained.
Belema, who was standing by the stove stirring pasta sauce, looked over her shoulder.
"Leonard again?"
"Who else?" Divya muttered as she washed her hands , grabbed a knife and began slicing vegetables. "He acts like he knows everything. Every single thing I said at the meeting, he had to oppose it."
Belema laughed softly.
"Maybe he just likes arguing with you."
"No, he likes annoying me," Divya corrected. "And honestly, I wonder how he treats that poor secretary of his. She barely spoke the whole meeting."
"Divya, not everybody likes talking as much as you do."
"Excuse me?"
"You know I'm right."
Divya rolled her eyes and continued chopping the vegetables.
"He called me a rookie," she mumbled.
"You are a rookie."
Divya turned sharply.
"Belema!"
Her sister burst into laughter.
"Okay, okay. I'm joking. But seriously, Leonard was always a little too serious, even back in school."
"So he has always been unbearable?"
"Pretty much."
The sisters continued preparing dinner together, laughing and talking quietly.
Every few seconds, Belema glanced toward the kitchen door to make sure Mr Parker was nowhere nearby.
When she was finally sure he was still in his study, she lowered her voice.
"You know what you need?"
"A new job?"
"A relationship."
Divya almost dropped the spoon in her hand.
"What?"
"Think about it. Your life is just dad, work, and me. You need something exciting."
"Dad would faint if he heard this conversation."
"Exactly why he must not hear it."
Belema quickly pulled out her phone and moved closer.
"There's this anonymous dating app everyone has been talking about."
Divya frowned.
"Anonymous?"
"Yes. Nobody uses their real name or posts their pictures. People use numbers, letters, or random usernames."
"That sounds dangerous."
"No, it sounds safe," Belema corrected. "The whole point is for people to connect before they meet physically. No pressure, no family names, no money, no status. Just conversation."
Divya stared at the phone screen.
"And dad will never know?"
"Not if you keep your mouth shut."
That was enough to make Divya smile.
A few minutes later, she was lying on her bed while Belema sat beside her helping her set up the app.
"You need a username," Belema said.
Divya thought for a moment.
"What about D21?"
"Simple. I like it."
"And now?"
"Now you just wait for matches."
Divya smiled to herself.
For the first time in a while, she felt like something exciting was finally happening in her life.
Across the city, Leonard sat alone in his home office with his laptop open in front of him.
He had loosened his tie and rolled up the sleeves of his shirt, but he still looked like a man who had no idea how to relax.
Just as he was about to continue working, his phone rang.
He looked at the screen and sighed.
"Mum."
He answered.
"Hello, Mum."
"Since you refuse to get married or give me grandchildren, I have found a better idea for you to meet your soulmate," Mrs Chloe announced cheerfully.
Leonard closed his eyes.
"Mum, what now? I was just about to work."
"Exactly! You are always about to work. You work too much. Being a CEO is not all about working yourself to death."
"And being my mother is apparently all about disturbing me."
Mrs Chloe gasped dramatically.
"Such disrespect. I carried you for nine months."
Leonard laughed despite himself.
"What do you want me to do?"
"Check w******p. I sent you something."
A second later, his phone buzzed.
He opened the message.
It was a link to an anonymous dating app.
"Mum..."
"Don't 'Mum' me. Download it. Maybe you will finally meet somebody who can tolerate your attitude."
Leonard smirked.
"Goodnight, Mum."
"Download it first!"
The call ended.
Leonard stared at the link for a moment.
Then, out of curiosity, he clicked it.
The next morning, Divya walked out of the mansion with an unusual smile on her face.
Mr Parker was already waiting beside the car, but he paused when he saw her.
"Why are you smiling like that?"
"Can't I be happy?"
"You hated this job yesterday."
Divya took the car keys from him playfully.
"Well, I have decided to become a good secretary and stop complaining all the time."
Mr Parker raised an eyebrow.
"Who are you and what have you done with my daughter?"
Divya laughed.
Only Belema knew the truth.
Late last night, she had found a match on the dating app.
He was funny, sarcastic, and somehow understood her in a way nobody else did.
His username was LX9.
And for the first time in a very long time, Divya could not wait for the day to begin.
