Chapter 12

--- Monica walked into the ward with some bags. Blair was already fast asleep. Reynolds was on his phone when his wife stepped in. He watched her keep the bags, and she came to sit beside him. "What's wrong, my love?" he asked. "He said she's his mate," Monica replied with a sad face. Reynolds said nothing. Monica arched a brow at her husband's silence. "You're not saying anything?" she asked, perplexed. "I saw it coming," he replied. "I saw how he looked at her." "What do we do?" Monica asked. "Do?" he asked, like she had just said the most unexpected thing. "Yes, humans and supernaturals don't mix. He's going to open her life to a lot of dangers," she said. "We won't do anything," Reynolds said with a frown. Monica expected it. Even if she wanted to do something, anything at all, she knew there was actually nothing she could do. Her husband had always been more logical, not stressing things that were far beyond their control. --- **Kanye Street** Nancy took her bath and changed into home clothes. She was exhausted from the events that had taken place the previous night. She picked up her phone to check her social media accounts. Everything was good; she had new followers. She went through the comments on her previous post, where she had posted a picture of her and her daughter Jasmine. People were commenting: - She's so pretty. - She doesn't even look like her mom; her daddy must be so hot. - I remember when this little munchkin was so little, and now she's a toddler. - You've never posted her dad. - We want to see her dad; she doesn't look like you. - Baby feverrrr. Nancy smiled at the comments. Her eyeballs wandered to those about Jasmine's dad. She frowned and dropped her phone. "He's a sucker that abandoned us," she said out loud. She hadn't been able to sleep at all, and she was finally drifting into the other world when her doorbell rang. She was frustrated and cursed under her breath. She lived alone with her daughter in a two-bedroom apartment in a building complex. The doorbell rang again. "I'm coming," she yelled. She opened the door to see her mother and her daughter Jasmine. "Mom," she said and welcomed her in. Her mom stepped in with a smile. "Your daughter couldn't wait till this evening," she said with a smile. Jasmine was already struggling to get out of her granny’s arms. "Mama...mama...mama," she yelled while shaking everywhere. "Stay put, baby," granny cooed. Nancy turned to take her child from her mom. "Jass," she cooed. Her baby wrapped her arms around her mother's neck lovingly. "Mama missed you too," Nancy said, patting her back with a smile. Nancy noticed what her daughter was wearing. She had on a floral gown with diapers, long stockings, and flat princess shoes. "The dress?" Nancy asked. "Your father got it for her when he went out," her mom said. Nancy stared with gratitude. "Thanks, Mom," she said. "What are you thanking me for? You're our daughter, and she's our grandbaby," she said with a smile. Nancy was so grateful her parents were this supportive. She sat with her mother after putting Jasmine in her room to play with her toys. "He's doing well," Nancy said. Her mother smiled. "And so are you," she said, making her daughter lay on her thighs. She gave her a head massage. "I just don't understand why he's refused to come back or why he refused to acknowledge his daughter. We were so in love, Mama," she said with a sad smile. "He's good for nothing. He doesn't deserve either you or Jasmine," her mother said to make her feel better, and she did. "I just want my baby to grow up with a father figure. She's too young to understand these things, but when she grows up, I just don't know," Nancy said, stating her worries. "Maybe it's time you started dating. Jasmine is two years old. She's not that dependent on her mother, so you'll have time to go on dates and all," her mother said. Nancy frowned at the thought of it. "Remember I was a single mother to Elijah, your older brother, when I married your dad. He loved me and loved Elijah as well and didn't mind that I was a r**e victim or that I had a bastard child," she said. Nancy nodded with a smile. "I'll think about it, Mom. Thank you." "You're always welcome, baby," her mother said. "I placed the groceries for you in the kitchen. I'll get going now," she said. "Let me see you off. Wait here," she said. Nancy went to check up on her daughter, who had fallen asleep in an awkward position. She chuckled and picked her up, laying her down in her crib. She made sure the baby monitor was working and closed the door. She picked her keys and left her apartment, locking the door behind her. --- **Emerald Villas and Condos** The fleet of cars drove into the gate, separating them from the rest of California. It looked like a land one would say was filled with milk and honey. It said one word: RICH. Only the rich could get to this part of California. The road was smooth, not even a stone out of place, with beautiful trees on each part of the road and a water fountain in most places. Only super-rich people could get access to Emerald Villas. Barrett got out of his car after the door was opened for him by one of the guys in suits. The car was immediately taken away to the underground parking lot. They were in front of a large villa. Anay stood beside him, with some men in black behind them. They began walking towards the gate, which was pushed open by a middle-aged man. Barrett arched a brow; he recognized the man, who bowed as a sign of respect. The employees in the villa were outside, seven on the left and right side. They were maids and butlers. A lady stood at the door, waiting patiently for them. Barrett arched his brow when he saw wolves on each side of where she stood. He walked towards her without fear, with Anay beside him. "My baby," she cooed, reaching to peck his cheek. He stepped back, making the wolves growl. "Stop that, boys. He's your master," she said with a smile. Barrett chuckled, looking at the two wolves. "Wouldn't it be weird for a ‘human’ to have dangerous animals around?" he asked with a smirk. "Nobody comes here," his mother countered. The wolves immediately transformed into humans; they were two men in suits. Barrett eyed them and stepped inside. "We need to talk," he said. His mother followed behind him, and so did the maids and butlers. "I knew something must have brought you here. You really don't care about your mother," she said. They were now in her study. She sat behind a table that looked like it was made out of this world. It had a creepy vibe to it, and of course, it was made out of this world. "I don't have time for your games, Mother," he said. "I have a new mate," he said, making the lady who looked cool lose composure. "WHAT?" she asked. Barrett smirked. ---
