I got up in a movement and I turned face to face with a guy I didn't know. I grabbed my bag and was about to make my way back down in silence when he placed his hand on my shoulder.
"I didn't want to interrupt you." His voice was softer this time.
"I was about to go anyway." I replied removing his hand.
"Oh, I didn't meant to- I'm so sorry." He seemed as uneasy as me and scratched the back of his head looking down at his feet.
All of a sudden, the atmosphere was not as dense and I let out a giggle seeing him struggle.
"It's okay." I gave him a small smile.
He gladly returned the smile and stood there somehow staring at me. As time slowly passed by, it wasn't a simple stare anymore but he was more likely looking directly through my soul. I cleared my throat and put my bag on my shoulder getting ready to get out of this yet again uncomfortable situation.
"I'm Nate." He offered his hand with a sheepish smile.
"Anna." I said going for the handshake. But before my hand could get in contact with his a cold wind gushed between us. It reminded me of the day I was at the graveyard. I couldn't help but think of Zayn immediately feeling sad and alone.
"Well.... I hope to see you again around Anna." Nate said as he made his way down the stairs leaving me to my own thoughts.
There was something about him that reminded me of Zayn. That thought suddenly made me snap back to reality. How could I compare anyone to my bestfriend. There could be no one as him. I proceeded to get back to class also as the bell rang the end of lunch time.
….
As every single day now when school ended, I would make my way to the graveyard so I could spend some time with Zayn. I was aware that gradually people would think I had lost it but the only moment I didn't felt this loneliness was when I would narrate my day to him. Alive or dead he remained my only bestfriend.
"Hey stupid." I whispered as soon as I sat next to his grave placing the flowers I brought on top.
I was yet again welcome with this cold breeze brushing my cheeks softly. But this time to my horror it was followed by a whisper of my name 'Anna'. My eyes wandered around to see if anyone was around but I couldn't find a single soul. I could feel the hair on my hands raising in fear and discomfort. I got up pushing the whole situation at the back of my head and blaming it on my imagination. I decided to walk back home so clear my mind.
I was not even a mile away from home when I noticed a familiar figure from far. And to my great surprise, I was happy to see him. Something inside me made me called him even though I knew I acted weirdly earlier and that I barely knew him.
"Nate!" I waved at him from a distant and I could tell from his expression he was happy to see me too.
He walk his way to where I was with the same goofy smile from earlier on the rooftop.
"Anna!" He responded with enthusiasm.
"What are you doing here." I questioned.
"Well, as we just moved in with my family, I'm running some errands for my mother." Nate replied motioning for me to walk with him as we talked.
I noticed we were going in my house's direction as we continued our conversation.
"You moved in the neighborhood?" I asked totally unaware.
He looked at me with clear surprised and burst in laugh. I didn't know what was this funny about my question. But the more I looked at him, it struck me with an unbearable pain in the chest, his eyes! His eyes reminded me of Zayn. For an instant I couldn't even hear a single thing but see Nate laughing on mute which was amusing. His hazel brown eyes was exactly the same as Zayn's.
