[Isolde] I didn't sleep that night. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw different faces but the one that haunted my mind was Johnny's. I heard his threats echoing in my head, felt the ghost of his attempt to hit me and all while watching the divorce papers flutter to the floor unsigned for the hundredth time. By the time dawn came, I'd given up on rest entirely. I lay there staring at the ceiling, my shoulder throbbing, my mind spinning through the same useless loop: How could I make that money in such a short time?
