No… No… No… This couldn’t be! This wasn’t real! But there she was, right in front of me, completely still, her blood staining her dress and the floor beneath her.
Her brothers struggled as the guards restrained them, while I was paralyzed by the sight of her lifeless body. Her eyes were closed, but they had locked onto mine just before she… died.
“Carina, what have you done?” her uncle screamed.
He moved over to her, wrenching the dagger from her and tossing it aside. Then he continued to scream at her.
“She was ours to use as leverage!” he roared.
“No, she was just your pawn. I wanted her dead!” Carina shouted back.
“You fool!”
“She is dead! Now kill the rest and take the throne!”
“You’ve just made a martyr!”
“They’re dead! Anyone who resists will meet the same fate!”
