We stop in town to drop Humboldt with Dakota. She was very upset after hearing about Rupert’s hospital admission, so when I told her we’d be going to Vancouver for the meeting, she asked if she could look after Big Dog, “to keep me company,” instead of us leaving him with Catrina. I gladly accepted. And Humboldt likes hanging out with Dakota at the Salamander—who wouldn’t? He gets to nap all day while surrounded by people who slip him bites from their lunch plates. I promise her I will give Rupert her love; she promises she won’t fatten up my dog too much overnight.
