The Lie and the Doctor

393 Words
The secret was bigger than I ever imagined. When Mira sent me the first message about the doctor, I thought it was just another twisted part of her game. But soon, the pieces fell into place. Damien had taken me to a clinic for my abortions. The same doctor who had “helped” Mira. A man whose hands held power over our lives and whose conscience was as dark as the night. I decided I needed answers. I had to know the truth. I found the clinic’s number and called. A woman’s voice answered politely. When I asked about Damien’s cases, she hesitated. “I’m sorry, ma’am, but I can’t discuss patient information.” I told her I was concerned for my safety. After some back and forth, she finally agreed to talk. And what she told me shattered the last fragments of my world. Mira never had the abortion. The doctor and Mira had conspired to deceive Damien. They had told him the procedure was done — but Mira had kept the baby, hoping to force Damien into marriage or payments. She was the one who had trapped him. But the doctor? He was more than just an accomplice. He was a man who profited from broken promises and lies. My blood ran cold. I felt betrayed all over again — not just by Damien, but by the system that was supposed to protect me. When I told Damien, he was furious. “We have to stop this,” he said. “If this gets out, I could lose everything.” But I couldn’t keep silent. The fear inside me grew. I wasn’t just fighting for my own pain anymore. I was fighting to expose the truth. And that meant going to the police. The day I walked into the station, my hands trembled. I told them everything — the abuse, the forced abortions, Mira’s scam, the doctor’s lies. They took notes, asked questions, and promised to investigate. Damien was called in for questioning. For the first time, I saw him afraid. Not of me. Of consequences. The man who had held my bruised body and whispered love was now on the edge of losing everything. And for the first time, I didn’t feel sorry for him. Because love that hurts, that lies, that destroys is not love. It’s a prison.
