Instead of getting inside the black hole right in front of us, Clark and Jake led me to another entrance on the other side of the cave.
As soon as we stepped in, still cold air immediately welcomed me.
“What is that smell?”
I froze and looked at Jake as he sniffed around.
His thick brows were knitted as he continued catching the smell.
“Blood… it’s sweet, and…” he suddenly met my eyes.
I turned away, feeling my heart race at the possibility of him knowing that I had been here and knowing secrets that he had no idea about.
“It is sweet.” Clark’s deep voice echoed. “We recently had highborns who got injured at the newly rescued section. It's from their high ranking bloodline,” he explained. I’m not sure whether it was true or to cover up for me.
