I never thought I would be sitting in this fancy office, being interviewed for the role of wife to a billionaire.
I mean, what kind of person applies for something like that? But I had my reasons.
I've always been the kind of person who likes to take care of myself, and I've never wanted to rely on anyone else. But when I saw the advertisement, I started to think about what it would be like to have financial security.
And that's when I decided to apply.
I was surprised when they called me in.
As I sat across from Michael, I couldn't help but feel a little nervous.
He was tall and imposing, with a serious expression on his face. But when he spoke, his voice was soft and gentle.
He told me that he had recently become friends with my boss, and that's how he found out about me.
He said that he was impressed by my work and my dedication, and he thought I would be a good fit for the role.
I was flattered, but I still had my reservations. I had never imagined myself as someone's wife, especially not on a contractual basis.
But as I listened to him talk, I began to see his perspective. He was a busy man, with a lot of responsibilities.
He was looking for someone who could help him manage his life, and who he could trust to be reliable and discreet. He didn't want a wife who would try to change him or demand too much from him.
He just wanted someone he could depend on. And the more he talked, the more I started to think that maybe I could be that person.
But what about my own life? What about my dreams and my goals? I wasn't sure if I could give them up.
"I know this is a big decision," Michael said, "so I want to be clear about what I'm offering. This would be a four-year contract, with a generous salary and benefits. You would be free to leave at any time, and there would be no expectations of anything beyond a professional relationship. Is that clear?"
I nodded, trying to process what he was saying. On the one hand, it sounded like a good deal. But on the other hand, it felt a little bit cold and transactional.
I wasn't sure if I could really separate my feelings from my work in that way.
But then I thought about my life as it was. I was struggling to make ends meet, and I was never able to save any money.
This contract would give me the financial security I needed to build a better life for myself. I would be able to save for my future, and maybe even go back to school. I thought about all the things I could do with the money, and the possibilities seemed endless.
"What do you say?" Michael asked, breaking into my thoughts. I took a deep breath and made my decision.
"I'll do it," I said, my voice shaking slightly. "I'll sign the contract."
A smile spread across Michael's face, and for the first time, I saw a glimpse of warmth in his eyes. "Thank you," he said.
"I'm confident that we'll work well together. I'll have my lawyer draw up the contract and have it ready for you to sign in the next few days."
As I left the office, I couldn't help but feel a little bit nervous and a little bit excited. I was about to start a new chapter in my life, and I had no idea what was in store for me. But I knew that it would be an adventure, and I was ready for whatever came my way.
A few days later, I met with Michael's lawyer and signed the contract. As I walked out of the office, I couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. I knew that this was the beginning of something new, and I was ready to embrace it. I had no idea what the next four years would bring, but I knew that I was going to make the most of them.
After I signed the contract, and I was getting ready to move into Michael's house. I packed up all of my belongings, said goodbye to my friends and family, and then headed to my new home. As I walked through the door, I took a deep breath and tried to calm my nerves. I knew that this was going to be a big change, but I was determined to make the most of it.
I started my "wifely duties" by helping Michael around the house. I made dinner, cleaned the kitchen, and did the laundry.
But as the days went by, I started to feel like something was missing. I was happy to be helping Michael, but I began to feel like I wasn't being true to myself. I realized that I missed my old life - independence, friends, freedom. I tried to push those feelings away, but they kept coming back.
I decided to let go of my old life and fully embrace my new one. I started to enjoy my time with Michael, and I began to appreciate the little things. I found joy in the simple things, like cooking dinner or going for a walk. And as I started to let go of the past, I began to feel more and more at home in my new life.
I also started to feel a sense of purpose in my role as Michael's "wife." I took pride in taking care of him and making his life easier. And as I did, I began to feel like I was making a real difference in his life. I started to feel like I was truly a part of his family, and that I belonged. And that feeling gave me a sense of fulfillment that I had never experienced before.
I felt more and more at home in my new life. I still missed my old life sometimes, but I knew that I had made the right decision. I had found a new family and a new purpose, and I was grateful for it.
And that was how my new life began.
