When your dreams all fail
And the ones we hail
Are the worst of all
And the blood's run stale
Imagine Dragons- Demons

Never in Harris' life had the boy felt so angry and pained. Both recalcitrants for the second time that afternoon found themselves in Wheeler's office. The man stared at them both in disbelief and disappointment not even knowing what to say and where to start. He had rested his head on his interlocked fingers and continued to shift his gaze from one boy to the other. He didn't know where to start.
From the fierce punches Lesley threw at Harris, Harris looked like his face was set on fire and put out with chains. Lesley on the other hand looked like something Wheeler's two year old daughter would draw with her left hand. He was so infuriated and seemed so dense that bet light will bend around him. He sat in his chair dabbing a tissue paper on his nose.
"I can't believe you two." Wheeler sighed and leaned back into his chair shaking his head. A few minutes together this happens already?? "I convinced myself you two can do better, and that I didn't stay half of the night speaking to all those officials for nothing... and what? This is how you chose to advance this?" Wheeler questioned them with disappointment written all over his face. None of them could look him in the eye.
"You don't deserve any favors anymore so I'm not going to let this slide. I'm going to see to it that you get properly disciplined by the only people you probably listen to."
Wheeler picked up a file and took two green paper slips from it and passed it to the boys. Harris was hesitant in taking it because he knew that green paper way too well.
"I'm calling your parents about this. In the mean time those are your tickets to detention for this week. Pray I dont get a change of heart and extend it to two weeks."
Harris suddenly became still in his chair. Wheeler was going to call his dad, he was in a s**t load of trouble. He hasn't even gotten around to tell his dad he won't be playing anymore because he got suspended to God knows when. And now wheeler was going to tell him about his ruthless behavior in school. Harris was considering himself dead.
He was deceased.
His dad was a very intimidating person who lived his life by a set of rules he expected most around him to go by. He was very reserved and highly disciplined and much expected his son to be the same. This was why Harris picked after him and grew up to be the 'golden boy'.
So know that he had gotten his ass suspended from the tournament and engaged in a series of fights, he was basically screwed.
"You dont have to call our parents. There must be another way to resolve this." Harris said worriedly.
"No young man. This is it, and you are not going to getaway this time."
"But Mr Wheeler..."
"I'm done here Harris. Once again be thankful. I'm a second away from reporting your misconduct to the officials." Wheeler replied getting annoyed.
Harris sighed and turned to look at Lesley. The dark haired boy was too busy attending to his nose to care less about whatever his parents were going to hear about his first day at school.
"Now you both can leave. Third period is in session already." Wheeler flipped his wrist watch around to check the time. Then right there in front of them, he picked up the telephone to call their parents. Harris walked out not wanting to hear anything Wheeler says on the phone to remind him of how much trouble he's in. He quickly sent his father a text about everything before his father could receive Wheeler's call. The man replied stating they would talk about this when he gets back home. Harris hoped non of his liberties would be taking away as a positive punishment.
As days passed, both boys became more distant with each other. They knew very well what was bound to happen if they stayed in at least a mile closer in the others radius.
Harris' Nissan was taken away from him along with a few of his gadgets by his dad that until he "puts up a civilized and respectable behavior", he wasn't getting s**t back.
Though suspended, both boys were allowed to practice with the team. Harris made sure to go for practice only when Lesley wasn't going. They stayed their best not to cross each others parts.
Lesley was minding his own business too. He would drive to school and not speak to anyone till the bell goes off and he drives back home. Harris was intrigued about how a human being could be so reserved. Aside talking to a few people maybe when he needed something or had to pass on an information, Lesley kept to himself and did the school work all on his own.
Not until one day the biology teacher, Mr Child's, assigned partners for a project and paired them both together. Harris' hope of playing at states once again flashed before his eyes. They weren't going to finish this project without one of them getting a black eye or a broken nose. He pleaded with the teacher to switch his partner but the man as a typical public school teacher barely paid any attention to him.
So on a humid afternoon after school, the boys met in an empty classroom to begin work as the assignment stated.
Lesley who had spent his sweet time and delayed Harris had pissed the boy off before they could even exchange words.
Lesley finally appears walking slowly and took the seat opposite Harris.
"Do you mind, some of us have a life so next time please make it quick." His fierce green eyes boring holes into Lesley's head.
The dark haired boy cared less. He lethargically brought out his reading material and placed them on the table opposite Harris'. He cleared his throat and flipped through the pages looking for the page they were supposed to work on. After almost thirty minutes of flipping back and forth, he finally found it and began highlighting.
All through it Harris stared at him annoyed. Half of him was convinced Lesley was doing this on purpose.
"The chapter on variation is very short so we might need some back up from the internet." Lesley explained beginning to answer the questions. Not like he needed any back up from the internet. Lesley was a genius.
Harris sighed and began going through the questions. They were essays and required ideas from both heads, but it seemed like Lesley was doing them all on his own and not bothering to engage Harris with anything.
Did it occur to him it was a group assignment and needed to work with his partner?
"So you're just gonna sit there and do the work all by yourself?" Harris demanded with folded arms.
"Yes I plan to." Lesley replied not bothering to look up.
"And did it ever occur to you that I might know some answers to that." Harris replied.
"I'm pretty sure whatever is in that bimbo head of yours I know already." Lesley retorted and once again not bothering to look up.
Harris drew in a sharp breath and clicked his tongue. Lesley was doing it again.
"I had a 94 on that biology test." Harris snapped.
"And I had a 95." Lesley replied finally looking up with a big cocky grin plastered on his face.
"And what is the f*****g difference between 94 and 95!" Harris asked obviously pissed.
Lesley snickered and went back to his work. "You didn't just ask that."
Harris wasn't happy Lesley was making fun of him. Of course, he would jump to whatever chance he got to piss Harris of.
"You are impossible to underestimate." Harris hissed. He ran his hands through his hair and began flipping through his book. "I'm going to work on this with you, you dipshit. I need my grades."
"Trust me Harris, if there's ever an intelligent thought in that head of yours I'm pretty sure it died from loneliness."
Harris's mouth fell agape for Lesley's reply hit him really hard. He didn't just hear that.
"People like you are the reason why god doesn't talk to us anymore you know that right?" Harris replied with anger flooding his tone. His light green eyes were lit in frustration.
Lesley simply shook his head and sighed. He leaned back into his chair and folded his arms. "If you want to add your contribution so we can fail drastically then I think I'll be fine by that. It will scratch just little credits off my record but that's ok."
Harris scoffed.
Lesley wanted to get this over with as fast as possible so he went ahead to explain what he had gathered so far.
"Hemoglobin SC disease and hemoglobin SB thalassemia are common forms of the sickle cell disease." He began.
"What is thalassemia?" Harris asked.
Lesley pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. "I dont have the time or crayons to explain this to you Cooper." He said obviously bored already.
Harris leaned away from his chair and closer onto the table where he looked fiercely at Lesley, "Dont make me smack the extra chromosome out of you Lesley." He hissed daringly through gritted teeth.
Lesley looked at him with a frown already regretting his decision of showing up today.
He leaned closer unto the table, few inches away from Harris and whispered,
"I dare you Harris. Hit me."
Harris hadn't expected that. Now Lesley was demanding what he had been waiting to do since he had taken a seat before him.
Did Lesley really think he wouldn't? Well plot twist b***h. Harris grinned cunningly knowing he wouldn't let that chance go by.
"If you say so dipshit."
Harris stretched to grab one of his test books when the classroom door flew open with kelvin and Alvin stumbling inside. Harris and Lesley exchanged confused looks.
The boys who had just stumbled in had been eavesdropping the conversation since Lesley had made an entrance into the room. Kelvin and Alvin knew nothing better would come of Harris and Lesley being in the same room. So they had brought up the plan of eavesdropping on their work to know if the conversation was to get heated, and that if it did they would interfere.
Lesley gave them a quizzical look whiles Harris on the other hand was pissed his only chance of hitting Lesley legitimately had just flicked away.
Kelvin nudged Alvin to speak.
"Errr...." Alvin stammered nudging kelvin to speak instead.
"What is this?" Harris demanded.
"We really need to talk with you." Kelvin quickly shot up. "Wolfhard said we should tell you something." He immediately made up an excuse.
"I spoke to the coach about an hour ago. If he had something to say I believe he would have told me then." Harris replied.
Lesley who was having enough of the days drama quickly packed his books and took his exit.
"We had to stop you from throwing that punch." Alvin explained after Lesley left.
"And how exactly did you two..... Wait were you listening on the conversation?" Harris asked with a crease forming on his brows.
"I'm sorry Harris it was my idea." Kevin confessed. " I wanted to make sure you guys wouldn't fight again."
Harris groaned in annoyance. He packed up his stuff and stormed out of the room banging the door behind him.
"Well man's hot." said Alvin staring after him.
"Really? You're quoting biq shaq right now." Kelvin asked cynically before turning to take his exit.
"And what did I do?" Alvin shrugged.
