|Nieves| The ceremony had finally begun. Overhead, the full moon bathed the clearing in an eerie, ethereal glow, casting its silver light over the couple standing at the altar. David and Veronica. Soon to be husband and wife. They stood before the Sage, hands intertwined as the ritual commenced, surrounded by family, allies, and the watchful eyes of the pack. Their voices wove together as they exchanged vows—soft yet unwavering, filled with devotion. I watched in silence, my fingers curling tightly around the fabric of my gown. The pain was there, simmering beneath my skin, but it wasn’t the soul-crushing agony I once feared it would be. It was dull, bearable. Manageable. Yet, no matter how much I tried to steel myself, I was still suffering the consequences of my mate’s rejection.
