Chapter 4 EXPLANATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS

1171 Words
I didn’t stay long last night after what happened. I had stormed out not even caring about the scene I made. After I left, my phone kept buzzing with phone calls and messages so I turned it off until this morning. I instantly regretted it because five minutes later my phone rings and my mom's contact pops up. I answered and my mother started screaming. ‘‘How dare you embarrass me like that! You have no idea how hard I worked to secure your future welfare just to have you screw everything over.’’ She yelled at me. Without saying a word I hung up and avoided all other calls and texts from her. After showering I threw on a pair of loose black sweats and headed to the kitchen and started rummaging through the cabinets trying to find something to eat but came up empty. I almost slapped myself realizing I had yet to go to the store, and now there was a gnawing feeling growing in my stomach. Not caring to change, I threw my hair into a bun and slipped on a pair of tennis shoes, I grabbed my keys and left. For a Saturday the store was surprisingly not that crowded. I was halfway through with my shopping when I saw Avalon walking towards me. I debated turning around or just ignoring her completely but as she got closer I could feel remorse coming from her so I decided to stand my ground. “Please, before you walk away or brush me off again we really need to talk.” She pleaded in one breath. I stood there contemplating what I should do, then decided to hear her out. “I have a little more shopping to do, help me and I’ll cook for us.” Avalon smiled and nodded as she followed along with me. The next half hour wasn’t that bad with her there, we actually talked about our classes amongst other things. Avalons phone began to ring and her face fell as she looked at the screen. She quickly declined the call and the air felt a bit tense from then on. We finished and were putting things into my trunk when a black SUV pulled in behind us blocking the way. Scary scar dude hopped out of the driver seat and walked to us. “Why are you here Blake?” Avalon asks. “You’re not answering your damn phone.” “And for a good reason.” Her voice lowered as she watched Caspian step out of the passenger seat. “You’re a difficult one Miss Evens.” Caspians stared me down. His gaze burned a hole through my back as I ignored him, and I could feel him moving closer. “You should listen when I'm talking to you.” I slammed the trunk of my car and spun to face him. “And you should shove your opinion up your ass.” The car parked in front of me was luckily pulling out, so I jumped into the driver's seat with Avalon following into the passenger side and drove away before the two guys could stop us. ******* “I can’t believe you said that to my brother.” Avalon laughed. “No one has ever talked to him like that.” I stood in the kitchen preparing food while Avalon sat at my small dining table in the joining room. “Why not? From the brief few seconds I've talked to him it seems that someone needs to.” I wasn’t exaggerating either, since meeting Caspian last night he’s only spoken seventeen words to me and I feel like punching him. That guy seemed like such an arrogant asshole, anda little part of me kind of liked it. And I blame that tiny little part for last night's dream. I couldn’t believe my parents are doing the same thing to me now that my grandparents did to them. No way was I going to marry a stranger. But for some reason I couldn’t get him out of my mind, and I found myself thinking of those beautiful eyes as I fell asleep. I dreamed of his deep smooth voice, whispering in my ear all the things I wanted him to do to me as he laid on top of me with my hands pinned above my head with one hand while his other explored the wet region between my thighs. The sensation from just his touch alone had done things to me and I wanted more of it, because for some reason there was this unexplainable attraction I felt towards him. Just the thought of it warmed my body in intimate ways. “There’s something I've been meaning to ask you.” Avalon said interrupting my daydream. “Hhmm..?” “Well actually there’s a few things. Starting with, what exactly do you know about your family?” Okay, weird question. But I answered. “My parents hate each other basically. Their marriage was arranged and they were always off somewhere leaving me behind, there were even times I thought that they had forgotten I existed.” “That sounds kind of lonely, I guess it explains why you live out here.” Avalon looked at me with sympathetic eyes and I could feel her pity towards me. “In a way, sort of.” I shrugged my shoulders. “And why i've never seen you at any of the other gatherings. Well, until last night that is. But that's not what I'm asking really. Have your parents told you any weird stories about your family history?” I didn’t understand what she was trying to say at first, and then it dawned on me. The conversation my dad tried to have with me and the look on his face when my hand lit on fire. He was trying to tell me something important and I just blew him off. “Actually, my dad tried last night. I just kind of brushed it off though.” Could Avalon know something and is hiding it? “He said that there was something special about my ancestors or something. That whatever it was made them different.” She just nodded slowly like she didn’t quite understand. “So, your parents don’t think there’s anything ‘special’ or ‘different’ with you?” I smiled, “And I would like to keep it that way.” She was confused for a minute then nodded. “So..” “Yes, I knew where you were because I saw it happen before it happened.” I pulled the meatloaf out of the stove and set it on the table. “I also saw why you were sad and drove off like that.” Avalon avoided eye contact as she fiddled with a loose string on her sleeve. “He’s an ass, so why were you crying about that?” She was hesitant but then finally spoke. “He’s my husband.” My jaw dropped.
