Chapter 2 IS A DREAM REALLY JUST A DREAM?

1362 Words
Avalon insisted she come in just to be sure I was alright, and after reassuring her many time that she didn't need to because she had already done enough for me ahe left getting into another car with scary scar dude. I was finally let alone in the peace and quiet. I took a long hot shower and then dressed in a pair of black sweatpants and a gray cropped tank top not even bothering to wear a bra. Somehow the day had exhausted me and I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. Then It felt like I was hit with a fifty pound sack. * Avalon sat in her car in an unfamiliar place and was sobbing silently. She was obviously mad about something because she suddenly turned the car on and sped away. She was speeding down an empty dark road, the only light coming from her head lamps. Avalon had been driving so fast and with everything being so dark she didn't have time to see the sharp turn. She stomped on the brakes but realized she wouldn't stop in enough time and would hit the huge tree head on. Avalon jerked the wheel to the side hoping she would be able to make the turn but the tires skid across the asphalt catching and flipped the car. It rolled a few times before hitting the tree and coming to a stop. She hung unconscious in the car as flames began to rise from the hood. Avalon didn't move as the car became engulfed in flames and exploded. Among the scattered pieces that had broken from the car sat her phone in the middle of the road with the screen half shattered reading 2:13 AM.* I shot up in bed gasping for air, my clothes and sheets clinging to my sweat covered body. Then I felt this empty hollow feeling in my stomach like something bad was about to happen. On impulse I reached over and grabbed my phone and looked at the time. 1:52 AM. Thinking back to the dream I noted that the road seemed a little familiar. Then it clicked. That sharp turn in the middle of nowhere was on a road that was only a couple miles from here. And without thinking I jumped out of bed and ran out the door not even bothering with my keys or locking up. I didn't even care that I was barefoot or barely dressed, the only thing I was thinking was 'I have to go now' . ********* I hear the crash before I see it. The smell of gas and burning rubber hit my nose and I pushed my feet to move faster ignoring how heavy my limbs were. Shattered glass and broken pieces of car were strewn all over the ground as smoke began to rise from the hood. The car laid upside-down with the weight of the bottom almost crushing the roof in, but lucky enough there was enough room for me to crawl through to get to Avalon. She hung there unconscious, still strapped in the seat as gas leaked around us. I layed underneath Avalon and tugged the belts until it finally gave in and snapped, letting her fall and land on top of me. With one arm wrapped around Avlon I dragged us out of the car, just barely making it far enough away before everything became engulfed in fire. Within a minute the car had exploded. Avalon groaned sitting up and looked from the burning wreck to me, her eyes going wide with shock as the realization hit her. “What…?” The sound of sirens were coming from the distance and getting closer. “I was never here.” I stood and ran in the other direction. The next few days flew by fast, I had explained to the professors of the classes I missed on the first day about what happened the first day and they excused me. Of course, Avalon tried to talk to me several times and everytime I turned the opposite direction or brushed it off, ignoring her completely. Now it's Friday and I layed around my apartment dreading the dinner I would be dragged to tonight. That morning my mom had sent me a text with an address telling me to be there. The day dragged on and eventually five o’clock came, I showered and got and got ready. Even though summer was beginning to turn slowly to fall it was still a bit warm, so I dressed in a short blue sundress that stopped mid thigh and hung off my shoulders. It made me feel self conscious the way the fabric clung to me to my body and showed off every unflattering curve. My mother and every other female on her side of the family are extremely beautiful. I get my orange hair from her just like every female on that side and my eyes from my dad. All the females were very petite and slender, their porcelain skin and blue eyes making them look like living dolls. I am the only one to have been born with green eyes along with being on the heavier side with a bigger chest and very curvy. Looking at the time it was now 6:15 PM, I grabbed a pair of matching blue flats and slipped them on before leaving. I followed the directions on my GPS to the address and it brought me to a beautiful enormous mansion. Now, I've seen mansions before, considering I spent most of my life in one, but this one was way bigger than my parents. It looked like a castle with brick walls and stained glass windows finished with a cobblestone driveway. The place only grew more in size the closer I got and I could see that there were already a few cars parked in the other driveway. I parked at the far end and headed to the front door. As I was about to ring the door gently swung open and my father stepped out. He was dressed up nicely in an all black suit and tie with his greying hair combed and eyeing the way I looked. “Is there something wrong?” I sighed, rolling my eyes. He shook his head before answering. “There’s just something I need to talk to you about before you go in.” I stood there in silence waiting for him to continue. He ushered me over to a small bench hidden behind one of the arch ways leading to the front door and sat us down. My dad was facing me with my hands in his as he spoke. “This family has a lot of secrets, and I had always hoped that you would never be dragged into this mess but I have no say in it.” I looked at my father confused as he spoke to me carefully. “You see, our family is different from some others. We come from a very long lineage of a very…..special ancestry.” He paused trying to think of a way to continue. Then I realized what he was trying to say. “Dad I already know what you are trying to say.” Now he looked confused. “Eris I don’t think you really do.” “Dad..” I held a hand between us with my palm up. I felt the warmth in my hand as a spark ignited and watched as my dad's face paled as my hand was now covered in fire. The flames disappeared as fast as they started and placed my hand back in his. “Like I said, I already know.” My dad sat staring at me in stunned silence as he tried to process what he had just seen. Beginning to feel uncomfortable I stood and walked away, still leaving him stunned and frozen on the bench. As I walked in I looked back and wondered, why are they just now telling me this and why not sooner? Whatever their reasoning was I didn’t care. I just want to get tonight done and over with.
