Chapter 7 Her Husband's True Color

816 Words
Nicholas arrived at the police station before Selena. In front of everyone, he carefully checked Isabelle from head to toe to ensure she was unharmed. After confirmation, he draped his suit jacket over her shoulders. 'Honestly, it is a bit embarrassing,' Isabelle thought. With a stern expression, Nicholas coldly addressed Alexander, "Your wife is on her way." "Uncle Nicholas... it wasn't me..." Alexander stammered, intimidated by his uncle's stern look. "It better not be," Nicholas replied with a cold smile. He warned his nephew, "You'd better not have any improper thoughts about your future aunt-in-law." Alexander, realizing he'd been caught, looked down, hiding the resentment in his eyes. "Jesus, Alex! What happened?" Selena rushed in, gasping at the sight of her husband's bandaged head. She hurried to his side, her face filled with concern. "Let's go home," Nicholas said, taking Isabelle's hand. "Shh, wait a bit," Isabelle whispered. She didn't want to miss the show that was about to unfold. She winked playfully at Nicholas, clinging to his arm to keep him from leaving. Realizing she was up to no good, Nicholas raised his eyebrows and found a seat with her. "Your nephew's head is severely injured. Do you think I'm being too cruel?" she asked, but her bright blue eyes clearly conveyed: You wouldn't dare call me cruel, would you? "I knew from the start you were here for revenge." Nicholas let out a chuckle, giving out an unintentional tenderness in his eyes. At that moment, she reminded him of a mischievous cat, too cute to scold even after causing trouble. "A little injury is nothing," Nicholas said, glancing at Alexander's bandaged head. He thought his nephew was foolish and unlike him in any way. "If the injury makes him a bit dimwitted, he might actually be smarter than he is now." Isabelle couldn't help but laugh out, and she quickly covered her mouth to stifle it. ***** "You hired a thug to harass that woman?" After hearing the police's explanation, Selena jumped up from her seat while glaring at her husband. "It wasn't me. I don't even know him..." Alexander protested, his voice tired and drained. "Fine! You have nothing to do with the thug! Then why were you at the bar during our honeymoon? Getting into a fight and saving that woman, huh? Since when did you become such a Good Samaritan?" Selena was boiling with anger. She thought Alexander's comment about postponing the honeymoon was a joke. She had been happily packing for their vacation at the villa when she got the call about her husband being detained at the police station! And it was all because of that shameless woman! Selena glared daggers at Isabelle. Isabelle, on the other hand, looked innocently at her, clinging to Nicholas' arm and leaning against him. Nicholas casually wrapped his arm around Isabelle's slim waist and pulled her closer. "If we're going to act, we gotta make it convincing." Just as Isabelle started to pull away, Nicholas' deep voice came from above her, so she obediently leaned into him. "Shut up!" Alexander, embarrassed and angry, snapped at Selena. His shameful intentions had been exposed by his wife, and he couldn't handle it. He pointed at Selena, yelling, "You are crazy!" He even grew a surge to slap her. But remembering they were in a police station, he reluctantly lowered his arm. Selena saw his movement and felt a deep sorrow. This was the true color of her husband. They had even been married for three days, yet he already wanted to hit her! "Our marriage is a joke, Alex." With her eyes red, Selena walked out of the police station without a backward glance. "The show's over. Ready to go home now?" Nicholas whispered in Isabelle's ear. Isabelle had been enjoying the drama and felt disappointed it ended so quickly. "Alright, let's go home." She knew there would be more scenes like this in the future. ***** Her plan was working perfectly. The money given to the thug had been passed through intermediaries to his family. Sitting in the car, Isabelle looked out of the window at the passing street and hummed a cheerful tune. Her brown hair danced in the wind blowing through the car window, mirroring her uplifted mood. Next to her, Nicholas was handling some documents. The gold-rimmed glasses gave him an even more sophisticated look. Yet, his gray-blue eyes were not on the documents but resting on Isabelle's profile for a long time. "Izzy." His voice was a bit hoarse. "Hmm?" Isabelle turned to him, her eyes questioning. "I know you're eager for revenge, but..." He gazed into her clear blue eyes and said, "Foolish people often don't care about the law. If you push them too hard, you might end up in danger yourself." Isabelle frowned slightly. 'Is he warning me? But my revenge plan has been meticulously planned out...'
