“It’s beautiful” Ems says while looking out of my bedroom window

The morning came around quickly thankfully, I grabbed some breakfast and changed ready for practise. I arrived at the arena thirty minutes early and put on my gear before heading onto the fresh ice, nothing beats being the first person to skate on fresh ice.

The rest of the team arrived on the ice along with coach, we warmed up, did some drills and had a practise ready for tonight, I’m not one to boast about my hockey skills but I was on fire during practise and coach even commented on it.

Second period ended and Carl had been put in the penalty box for two minutes for aggressiveness after one of the other players decided to check him into the board.

Last and final period started, the first ten minutes were brutal constant board checks, coach was screaming at the ref who was letting it slide, f**k this, I raced down the ice dodging players and secured the puck before racing up the ice passing the puck past players and headed straight for the net, I knew my strategy probably wouldn’t work again so this time I circled the net, Carl knew what I was doing so he crossed me behind the net faking the puck in his possession while I raced around the other side and slammed the puck into the back of net again this time I went straight over to where Ems was and tapped on the glass before pointing at the goal and I threw her a wink before I was jumped on by my team mates.

Carl scored a goal and in the last minute of play the other team got a goal, but it was too late, we won 3-1 and I couldn’t be any f*****g happier, as I did a victory lap, I kept my head down, but I was forming an idea in my head and it might be stupid and f**k everything up but a man’s got to try, right?

I raced to get off the ice but as soon as I stepped off, I motioned for Ems and Blake to come over to the half board before the player's tunnel. I could see the nerves on Ems's face, but she still walked a few steps over as I took my helmet off.

“You won De Marco” Blake shouted, and I couldn’t help but laugh as I ruffled his hair placing a kiss to his head and was rewarded with a loud squeal

“I think you owe me something now?” I said looking down into Ems’s bright green eyes watching that beautiful smile on face

“What do you want?” she asked but laughed as my team were getting held up by me talking, I leaned over the board wrapping my arm around her back pulling her as close as possible before pressing my lips to hers, f**k I missed her! I showered and dressed in a black suit with a white shirt and black dress shoes, packing up my kit I threw it in my bag before heading into the tunnel receiving pats on the back and congratulatory handshakes, but my eyes were trained Ems.

I watched her eyes flicker over my body, and I couldn’t help but smirk as I walked closer to her Blake was reaching his arms out and how could I say no to his little face, I propped him on my waist as Penny and Nikki both gave me a hug and stood back while I wrapped my free arm around Ems’s waist pulling her into my side and kissing her temple.

Blake was cuddled into my shoulder when my teammates started exiting the locker room, most of them giving encouraging pats on the back as they passed to get to their friends and families

“De Marco, we’re heading to Joey’s, you in?” Dale shouts and I can’t help but feel torn, I want to be with Ems and Blake, but my team also want to celebrate

“Go out with them, we’ll be fine. Plus, if you get finished early enough you can pop round after” Ems’s smirks up at me, this woman is going to kill me!

“One drink, then I'm coming round, yeah?” I ask and she nods biting her lip while staring up at me

“One drink lads, then I'm out!” I shout back

“Penny is going to dinner with Harv and I'm staying at Carl’s so you two will pretty much have the house to yourselves” Nikki says wiggling her brows at us both and we can’t help but laugh “Now, give me my nephew and give your girl a proper kiss” Nikki laughs taking a sleepy Blake out of my arms but I lean over placing a kiss to Blakes head before promising him that I will take him on the ice in a few days.

Wrapping my arms around Ems’s back I pull her in her close and crash my lips to hers and I'm about to deepen the kiss when I hear a load of whooping and hollering from my teammates, the fuckers!

Joey’s the bar we go to after a game is packed as always after win, I sit in the booth with Anthony, Dale, Rick and Tommy as we have a beer and talk about the game, I take my phone out and send a message to Ems
