That first look

Working under this heat, without a bit of rest, was killing her. Her tank top stuck against her back as her hair shared the same faith. Serena was happy when the sun started to leave his sky high place, switching for a cool breeze and the shimmering evening light. She and Karis sat on a bay of hay, holding a refreshment as they looked to the many people exploring the medieval town. Kids were running in excitement, mothers behind them with less excitement, it was a nice view. ‘Dear lord, what are they bringing in here.’ Karis whispered dreamly. She was looking in the same way, with a mouth hanging open, as if she saw the boys band from school walking by. Serena followed her gaze and forget all together why Karis was starring as she was starring herself. It was a group of around ten people, four riding horses as the others exchanged that whole weird vibe with the rest of the audience watching. ‘The guest riders.’ The boy that road Arian announced. ‘Those are the guest riders?’ Karis asked shocked. ‘What are guest riders?’ Serena asked quickly. ‘People from somewhere out of the world who will compete or give some demonstrations in the whole medieval context.’ The boy explained, standing still aside Karis as he frowned. ‘I wouldn’t stare like that, it isn’t attractive Karis.’ He chuckled.Serena pushed her finger under Karis her chin to shut her mouth as she smiled quickly to the boy. ‘I can’t believe those are the guest riders.’ Karis said with a suppressed excitement. Serena looked back to the group, the front man way to tall for her liking, with a blonde ponytail resting over his shoulder. He had something dominant in the way he was scouting the surroundings. Serena immediately knew he was the boss of that little group. ‘You would think they come right of medieval times.’ Karis observed, making Serena softly nod. They were different, probably just dressed to the occasion. She had to admit, it worked out, more than the knights she saw passing by today. ‘Damn they are handsome.’ Karis followed and I couldn’t resist laughing on her statement. Offcourse both girls were sitting right in front of the big event tent and Karis her smile faded the moment she saw that group was heading their way. Luckily their boss interfered, Serena was pretty sure Karis wouldn’t be able to say anything. ‘Welcome!’ He started right away. ‘Where can we stall the horses?’ The long man in front of the group started right away. The boss was for a short second silent, clearly impressed by the direct question. ‘She will show you the way to the pastures.’ He pointed towards Serena. Coward. ‘This way.’ Serena said, giving Karis a promising look as she jumped from the hay. Even Karis didn’t join her. Despite it was only a two minute walk to the pastures, it took like ages. She could feel those eyes burn in her back. Serena cleared her throat and forced a smile on her lips as she pointed towards the right pasture. The man in front nodded without saying a word while turning around to his group. Serena held the gate open, it was the perfect opportunity to admire those four horses. There was a paint, a beautiful white Spanish stallion, a little grey pony but that last one left her breathless, an imposant ravenblack friesian mare. Her manes reached down to her legs, a tale thick and slightly wavy. How beautiful could a horse be? ‘I’m sorry for the boss.’ The rider said. Serena pulled her eyes away from the horse to look at it’s owner. She felt her mouth getting dry as she looked up to the boy, he could become her twin brother. He was probably around her age, the same black hair and deep blue eyes. The only difference was that Serena was used on a little sunlight while he had that pale white skin. She didn’t knew how long she was looking and how long he was looking back but it took like minutes before Serena got her things back together and cleared her throat all over again. ‘No problem,’ She said with a little hesitation while turning around, gesturing towards the pasture. ‘welcome.’ she started walking, hurring away before it could get even more embarrassing.
