KELLEN’S POV The sounds of steel clashing together rang out across the training grounds, the sound sharp and reverberating. I loved the sound and happily welcomed it because it drowned out the noisy thoughts in my head. Or at least, it was supposed to. That was the reason why I had come here in the first place. My sword met with the guard’s with a force that sent a jolt up my arms. Golden sparks flew where the blades had touched, and it was gone in the blink of an eye. Sweat bathed my skin as the morning sun cast down on me. My muscles were burning from hours of relentless training drills, yet none of it was enough to ease the ache spreading through my chest.
