I jerked awake before my alarm even rang.
My heart was racing, and my body was alert, like sleeping was the last thing I should be doing. For a few seconds, I lay still on the bed, staring at the wooden ceiling while the faint lights of the morning crept into the room through the almost transparent curtains.
