“You're unbelievable...” Yale had no words for his friend. He looked at 3 manuals and now finally understood why Terence had chosen in the way he did.
There were three manuals. Golden Sun, Black Moon and Stargazer. Terence had chosen the black moon manual because he thought the name was the coolest out of the three. “Yale pick the a the black moon manual. There is also another good reason why i picked it. According to the description the qi you absorb after being refined will turn black. This is another characteristic that comes from cultivating using this manual. So what do you say, it'll be pretty cool right?”
Yale nodded and with no hesitation he also decided to use this manual. They reached the door where Clyne was standing and handed him all the jade slips they had picked out.
Looking at this scene Clyne couldn't help but laugh to himself. He grabbed the jade slips spoke. “Did you two brats even bother read the descriptions. Sigh, you know what? Forget it! I'll give the abridged version to your aunt. Now go do what you want.”
Yale and Terence nodded. “Come and I'll show you around the city. There is this restaurant you have to try.”
After both of them left the Martial hall, they went on to leave the school and went towards the south of the city. They walked unhurriedly as Terence spoke non stop introducing the various shops and buildings to Yale.
“The person who is in charge of the city treasury stays in that big building we are heading to.” Yale was confused. “I thought you said it's a restaurant. How did it become someone's house now.”
Terence laughed and said. “haha, he owns the restaurant so he chose to stay on the highest floor. We will be going too the 2nd floor, that's were me and aunty usually eat.”
Yale nodded and followed Terence. They reached the door and the two guards looked at Yale weirdly, they then looked towards Terence. Noticing this Terence spoke to the two of them. “He is a brother of mine, he just loves dressing like a commoner that's all.”
Hearing this the two guards nodded and respectfully greeted Yale. This left Yale rather awkward, he wasn't at all accustomed to this type of respect. He quickly caught up to Terence and said. “if it wasn’t for your status I probably wouldn’t be able to enter.”
Terence could only smile wryly. “If we announced how many elemental affinities you have then you'll be an instant celebrity.”
It was now Yale’s turn to smile awkwardly. The two friends walked towards the stairs that led to the second floor. Everyone on the first floor was looking at Yale in disdain. Most of them thought that Yale was Terence’s slave due to the way that he was dressed. They still didn't want to be associated with commoners so on their hearts they were also cursing at Terence.
“Don't mind them, in three they will all be worshiping you.” Terence didn’t really bother about the stares. He didn't really care about most people. He had a goal in his mind and nothing apart from that greatly mattered to him.
Yale could get only nod and follow. Even though he felt slightly awkward he still held his head high. They got to the 2 second floor and to Yale’s relief they the table they sat at was right next to the stairs.
The minute they sat down a waiter immediately made his way towards them. The waiter was a youth who looked to be 16 or 17. “Sir, what may I get you today.”
The youth had respectfully spoke to Terence but didn't bother to even glance towards Yale. “Just get us Red Boar meat. A s**t load of it.”
“Yes sir.” The waiter nodded and left.
As soon as the waiter left Terence frowned and spoke apologetically to Yale. “ Sorry Yale. To think they all act like this just because of how you're dressed. They are all just idi-“
“No they're not idiots, he just doesn't belong here.” The person who had cut Terence off was a youth who was around his age, who was wearing a green robe. This young man was precisely Yale’s boss Hugh.
After hearing this Terence wanted to speak up but was cut off by a small feminine voice. “Terence how do you expect me to marry you when you're dining with my brothers gardener?”
This voice belonged to Hilda, Terence’s fiancé. She was a petite girl who wpre a bright red robe. Terence had a lot to say to these two, but he found no energy to do so. Instead he reached into his robe, took out an envelope and handed it to Hilda.
“What is this!?” Hilda asked with a confused expression.
Terence smiled. “It's a letter that my father wrote to your father. It's about business don’t worry about it.”
Hilda was not the one who spoke afterwards, it was Hugh. “We will deliver it to our father..... But let me just say this, Yale is not welcome here. We are meeting our older sister here and we don't want her to see such an unpleasant site. You better get out now before I throw you out!”
Terence stood up angrily and was about to speak, but yet a different feminine voice cut him off. “Younger Brother, who is that that you're shouting at. Why did you use words, if they don't belong here then just use our authority.”
The speaker this time was a middle aged women, who wore a white robe. This woman was extremely beautiful, it was safe to say that to this point she was the most beautiful woman Yale had ever seen. “Oh Terence how are you, who is this bum you're dining with. My brothers words were correct he doesn't belong here.”
Terence sneered. “ ‘Here’ being your house? Yale this is the older sister of Hugh and Hilda. Let me warn you, she's not really beautiful her face is just full of cake. She thinks she's all that because the city governor took her as a s*x to-... I mean concubine. Took her as a concubine that's it.”
“You....” the lady’s face was flushed red from anger. “Don't think just because your aunt is powerful you can say whatever you want.”
Terence pretended as if he was deep in thought and then said. “I do believe I can say whatever I want. What can you do about it if you have the guts you can try shut me up.”
None of the people in front of them had the guts to do anything to him. So instead Hugh said. “We can do nothing to you, but I can make Yale’s life a living hell. Your aunt wouldn't care about a nobody like him.”
“If you dare touch that kid then I will kick you out of my restaurant....... In fact just get the f**k out
...
“If you dare touch that kid then I will kick you out of my restaurant....... In fact just get the f**k out!”
The three siblings, Yale and Terence were all startled by this. They turned towards the origin of the voice and found that a short young man who appeared to be below 20 was descending from the third floor.
This was precisely the owner of the restaurant they were in. Seeing this man the three siblings were filled with dread. The eldest of the three then spoke. “Mr Dean, what's your relation to-...”
“Hannah, Don't even bother with that petty shit.” Being cut of by this person who was just a treasurer in the kingdom had made Hannah all the more angry. She was the City Governors concubine, not even high ranking officials spoke to her in such a way.
Seeing the expression on Hannah's face Dean began to laugh. “What are you getting pissed for? You look like you're constipated, stop making such a face.... Listen this is my restaurant, if i tell you to leave then you must leave. Even that Husband of yours would have to listen to me in here. Let alone you, what status do you have to be arrogant to my customers. You're just a girl the Governor picked up cause his wife couldn't please him in bed. After that you were also so horrible that he had to get 3 more concubines. You're just a broken s*x toy, your likes are not welcome in my place.”
Silence, utter silence.
The people on the 1st and 2nd floor didn't even dare make a sound. Dean Luther was just a normal official in the city in terms of status. There was a rumour that about 14 years ago when he opened this restaurant he didn't even pay tax, and when they tried to make him pay he went to the governors house, beat him half to death and told him not to meddle in his business.
The Governor was the strongest person in the city, so after he was beaten up a lot of people began to fear Dean. After this no one had dared ask him for a single penny. The Governor had then approach him and try persuade him to be a general in the Army, but he declined and chose to be a treasurer instead.
“Hey, little girl you're still standing here? Get the f**k out.”
Hannah, Hilda and Hugh could only endure and walk out. Hugh cast a cold glare towards Yale and Terence as he exited.
“Bloody children nowadays just piss me off..... You two can continue now. Don't bother thanking me, its something i had to do.” Without waiting for a reply Dean went back to the third floor.
The people on the 2nd floor were now staring at Yale in confusion. They were not mislead by Dean’s words ‘arrogant to my customers’. God knows how many times the Governors concubines were rude to customers in this restaurant, but he still didn't act against them. So what made this little bum special?
These people now didn't even have the courage to have any bad thoughts about Yale. Some of them even greeted him nicely as they passed him when they were exiting.
Terence looked at Yale weirdly and then asked. “ You know him!?” Yale was shocked by this. “Have we met!! If we haven't let me introduce myself. My name is Yale and I’m a 14 year old gardener in a neighbouring City. How the hell am I supposed to be connected to the bloody treasurer of this city.”
“Oh f**k you! You don’t have to be an ass about it..... It's just that it's weird. That old man doesn’t even give my aunt face. That's why we only eat on the 2nd floor.” Terence then shook his head. “Forget it! The food is almost here. Let's eat. This is probably going to be our only decent meal in the next couple of years. Knowing my aunty..... Sigh...”
Yale could only sigh as well. The food arrived right after and they began to eat like a bunch on madmen.
After a couple of huge bites Terence took a breather and asked. “I've been meaning to ask you this. Where are you parents?”
Yale was chewing when he asked this so he had patiently wait until Yale was done for him to get his reply. “I don't know! I never knew them. I was raised by my grandpa. Before he passed away he didn't tell me anything about my parents. Maybe George knows, I'll ask him later. He is basically the only family i have left.”
Yale had spoken with no emotion until he mentioned his grandpa. When he was still a child he did want to know who his parents were, but as he grew older he cared less and less about it.
Terence spoke apologetically. “Oh! So that's the case. Sorry man.”
Yale shrugged. “It's ok. It doesn’t bother me much. I do have a question for you though......” Yale paused for a moment, then asked. “What was really in that letter you gave Hilda.”
Terence almost chocked. “*cough* *cough*. Oh that..... Uuuhhhh....” he really did not know what to say. In the end he decided not to lie to Yale.
“Divorce papers. I told you before that i don’t like her anyway. I spoke to my aunt and she helped me talk to my father about it. To be honest when i was child i really wanted to marry Hilda, but she changed as we grew up.” Terence wore an expression of a man who had had a lot of weight lifted from his shoulders.
“Apart from that, my auntie has this one friend. I'm telling you Yale, I'm going to make that woman my wife. But she said i had to be more powerful than her if i wanted to marry her. She didn't take me seriously at that time, but she is the sole reason why I’m going through all this shit.”
Yale was flabbergasted. “Your auntie's friend?...... Isn't she a several hundred years older than you.?”
Terence began to laugh. “Thousands actually. But who cares about age in this world. Once we reach the level saints we are pretty much immortal. So cares if she's just four thousand years older than me.”
“You are insane..... “ (Yale)
“Haha, my brother. They say love is a form of madness. So i agree i am insane.” Terence said with a laugh.
Yale could only shake his head. “you're 15, what the hell do you know about love.”
A couple of miles away from Yale and Terence’s position was were the Governor’s house was located. At the moment the governor was listening to his 2nd wife’s rant.
“Bruce he called me a broken s*x toy. He even made fun of Madam Fiona. Are you just going to do nothing about it.”
Hearing all this the Governor could only sigh. Ever since you showed up all those years ago i haven't had a moment of peace. And now you have pissed off this firecracker.... How do you expect me to handle this.....
“What do you expect me to do about it? You yourself know how powerful that man is. Just endure for now. He'll be leaving soon anyway.”
Hannah glared at her husband. “Fine!...... But how do you know he is leaving. Are you getting rid of him. Won't he make trouble for you if you try remove him.”
Bruce shook his head. “No, he is leaving on his own. He said something about how his master is about to appear.”
Hannah was shock. “That monster has a master!!? If he is this terrifying then who much of a beast is the master he serves.”
