Chapter 1

673 Words
Dove’s POV The phone rang for a few seconds, and then it stopped. I tried again, and it rang. Then someone finally picked up. A woman’s voice came through. “Mrs Laine speaking. Lombardini residence, how may I help you?” “Hi, I’m really sorry for calling at this hour, but I found an ad on the papers about a nanny position available. Is it still open?” I asked politely. “Yes, the position is still open. Are you interested?” The lady asked. Her voice seemed strict but motherly at the same time. “Yes, yes I am! My name is Dove Hamilton! I would like to apply for this position, please.” “Alright. Be at this location at 7:30 am sharp for your interview. I’ll text you the location.” She said. “7:30am? But, but it’s so early and-“ Do you want the job or not? 7:30 am or don’t show up at all.” She interrupts me. I bite my tongue. I really need this job and hopefully it’s a live-in job. “Okay, I’ll be there. Thank you so much!” Even though it was going to be so freaking early in the morning. She hangs up a couple of seconds later. I receive a notification on my phone. A text message. She sends the location for the interview. 1, Alexandre Lombardini Blvd. The location street has the last name as the residence? Odd. Now, one problem is half solved. The next is how to sleep tonight. Maybe I’ll use this bench to crash for tonight, then wash my face at the park fountain close by. I place my bag on one end of the bench as a make-shift pillow for at least forty percent comfort. I lie down and begin to remember the event of tonight. How could my father do this to me? Why? Just why? I drift off into a dreamless sleep. I open my eyes, and it’s still dark. I decide to check my phone for the time. 5:27am. Thank heavens. I have time to prepare myself for the interview. I search and rummage through my bags and find a grey top and jeans. I go over to the park toilet to change, then go to the fountain to wash my face. By the time I’m done, it’s 6:10 am. Thankfully, I have some cash for the bus ride to the location. I pack up my stuff, go to the bus stop and wait for the bus to take me there. I get on the first bus I see and take a seat. Then, I begin to think about how my life will go from here on. Maybe this was meant to happen, I don’t know. I’m trying really hard to be optimistic, but it’s hard. The bus stops and halts my thoughts. I almost miss my stop. I get down and pay the bus driver. I look at the house in front of me, and I realize a problem. This is not a house. It’s a freaking estate! Steel iron gates surround the entire place, with exotic flowers blooming everywhere. Vines cover the pillars. This place is crazy! I knock the gates, and a voice booms through the intercom “Uh, can I help you?” He asks. “Um, hello. My name is Dove Alaire Hamilton, and I’m here for the nanny interview.” “Hold on. I need to confirm from the housekeeper.” He replies. I wait for a few minutes, then I hear the gates squeaking as it opens. “You can go in. Mrs Laine is expecting you.” I walk on and marvel at the sights I see. There’s a huge fountain in the middle of this huge place! How crazy! After what feels like a long time because the distance from the gates to the actual house- palace, if I might say - is really long, I reach the front doors. Before I knock on the great mahogany doors, they fly open.
