“I’ll see you after lunch, Genevieve,” Dominic called as he walked towards the elevator. It was 11:45 and of course he was leaving early to go meet Jasmine.
’Ugh, Jasmine. What kind of name is that?′
The kind that gets the guy, apparently.
I sent Jeremy a quick email, hoping he hadn’t left yet and was still at his desk.
*Jeremy, plans have changed. Sorry about the whiplash. Are you still free? I’ll meet you downstairs at 11:55. -Genevieve-*
I got a message back a few moments later.
*Genevieve, It’s alright. Yes, I am. I’ll see you then. -Jeremy-*
I quickly shut off my computer and grabbed my purse. I needed to freshen myself up before meeting with him. I needed to apologize for blowing him off so many times and I wanted him to be just as head over heels as he was the first time he saw me, so I rode the elevator down to the first floor and walked through the vacant lobby into the women’s bathroom.
I walked into the stall at the end of the bathroom to relieve myself and as I was about to get back up I heard someone walk in talking on the phone.
“...Yeah, and it’s like he has a type or something. Yeah, this one is a brunette as well, but she’s bigger than the last one...No, like frumpy.”
I recognized the voice as Jasmines, but was she talking about me? I was definitely not frumpy!
“Yeah, and you should see what she wore today. Can you say ‘trying to climb the corporate ladder’? Yeah, and it’s skin tight like she thinks she looks good or something. He’s not even into fat girls. Oh, and you should’ve seen the way she looked at me like she had no idea who I was. I know, girl, I definitely gotta watch this one. I got a bad feeling about her.”
’This ‘fat girl’ had your man down on his knees in her apartment Saturday, bitch.′
I smirked at the memory and her words.
I heard her walk out of the bathroom and I adjusted my shirt inside my skirt and flushed. I unlocked the stall and walked over to the sinks, washing my hands.
Well, one thing’s for sure; she didn’t have to worry about me trying to take Dominic now. I was no home wrecker or side chick. Jasmine was definitely a b***h, but no one deserved to be cheated on.
I pulled out my lipstick and applied a fresh coat and played with my hair a bit, trying to give it more life.
I looked at my watch and saw that it was 11:52 and I figured that Jasmine and Dominic had left already so I walked out of the bathroom and was greeted by a sight I did not want to see.
Jeremy was talking with Jasmine with Dominic at her side and at the sound of my heels on the tile floor all three pairs of eyes turned my way.
“Hey, Gen. You ready to go get something to eat,” Jeremy asked excitedly.
I felt my face flush as I walked towards him and into the circle of fire, “Yep.”
Dominic’s face was turning red and his jaw was clenched. He had watched me type that email, but here I was going against his command. I knew he couldn’t do anything in public so I tried to calm my breathing, but I was worried about what would happen after lunch when we were alone again.
“Have fun you two,” Jasmine said in a sickly sweet voice.
“You as well,” Jeremy answered and held out his elbow for me to take. I placed a hand around it and he pulled me to the door.
“I’ll see you after lunch, Ms. Carlyle,” I heard Dominic’s voice behind me and it was the voice he used to tell you that you were in trouble and I knew that I was.
As we passed Dariah she had a triumphant smile on her face as she looked at me. Yeah, I know. I was stupid to have let myself have anything to do with Dominic Blackstone outside of work and she was gloating.
“You too, Mr. Blackstone,” I said over my shoulder. I didn’t have to look back to know that his eyes were trained on me.
‘He still looks at you that same way, you know.’ My inner goddess chimed in.
I mean, maybe, but he had a girlfriend the whole time. What we had, the way he looks at me...it means nothing now.
‘I wonder what she would do if she knew that you had been in his playroom.’
I sure as hell didn’t. I didn’t need to lose my job because of a jealous girlfriend that I knew nothing about. That wasn’t fair to me.
I would go to lunch with Jeremy and when I got back to the office if Dominic tried anything I would use my safeword. He hadn’t said it outright, but I knew that once I used that, things would get a lot more complicated between us.
I couldn’t think about that right now. I needed to think about Jeremy. I looked at Jeremy as we walked across the street and into the car garage.
He was quite handsome and I could see myself falling for him if I got a certain someone off of my mind. He was cute in a boy next door kind of way and that was just what I needed.
‘But not what you want.’
Maybe in time, Jeremy would be okay with a little role-playing.
