DANTE’S POV I never thought nor expected that they would come to get her right after I promised her that I would never interfere again. For a moment there, I wished I could just take back my words and tell her that I ad spoke too soon or that I was only going to step back after I protected her this one last time. I started feeling like this may have been a wrong time for me to do that to her, for some reason I felt like I had betrayed her despite the fact that this was what she had asked me for. Letting her go was harder than fighting a war. The moment the council wolves took Selene from my pack, something inside me fractured not cleanly, not sharply, but in a slow, grinding way that refused to heal. I told myself I had done the right thing. That stepping back was what she had asked for.
