A bizarre thing happened that morning as I made my way to school
It was a normal morning at first. I woke up, got ready for school, ate my breakfast, said goodbye to my dad and Jasmine before I left the house
Immediately I closed the door behind me, I heard screaming and the sound of things breaking
I turned to my left which was Riley's house and it seemed that was where the sound was coming from
I couldn't help but stand to see what was going on. I was so curious to the point that I didn't even care about the fact that I was already twenty minutes late for school
What could be going on in there? Should I knock to make sure everything is okay?
As I was just about to move to go over to their house, the next thing I saw surprised me
A very tall man holding boxes; the brown kind that you put your stuff in when you're moving to a new house, came out of their house with Emma behind him hitting his back, a cigarette in her hand
I didn't even know she smoked, she looked too decent for that
She looked like she hadn't showered for days which was weird cause I saw her yesterday and she looked perfectly fine to me
Her hair was scattered and her eyes were bloodshot red
She screamed as she hit the man. The man didn't even flinch or bother, he just continued walking till he got to his car which was on the other side of the road
"You bastard!" She screamed "go ahead and leave!"
"That's what I'm doing" the man said
"I f*****g hate you!"
The man put his stuff in the trunk and went back to the house to get the rest of his stuff
He made three more trips back and forth before he entered his car and took off
"Damn it!" Emma shouted as he drove off
She sat down on the road and sobbed with her head in her hands
I was just about to go over to console her when Riley came out with his school backpack on his shoulder
He looked at his mom and continued walking like he didn't know her
"Riley" I said
As usual, he didn't answer me. He just kept walking very fast as if trying to get away from this vicinity as soon as possible
"Riley are you okay?" I asked trying my best to keep up with him
He ignored me
"Answer me!" I said
I touched his shoulder in an attempt to get his attention but he turned around with so much force that I stumbled and almost fell
"Get the hell away from me!" He screamed
"What's your problem?" I screamed back "all I'm trying to do is be nice but you keep ignoring me. I saw the incident, I just want to know if you're okay"
"I don't need your pity, okay?"
"I'm not pitying you"
"Of course you aren't"
"Look, I just want to know.... "
"You don't need to know anything. Just stay away from me if not you won't like my reaction next time. I can hurt you"
Those were his last words before he walked away

"And then I told him I wasn't going to come anyway. The look on his face was f*****g priceless"
Molly went on and on about how she refused dates with a guy that was obsessed with her but I wasn't really paying attention
It was lunch time. I was supposed to be eating but I couldn't get my mind off what happened this morning
Who was that guy?
Was it his dad? I doubt because Riley didn't look like him and he didn't look like his mom either but some kids don't look like any of their parents
Was it her boyfriend? Was she even married? I don't think I've ever seen a wedding band in her finger, I never bothered to check anyway.
I just met her two days ago
My focus was on Riley. I kept staring at him, he ate alone in the corner of the room
He didn't even have any friends.
Suddenly, I felt water on my face. Molly splashed water from her bottle at me
"Earth to jade! I've been talking to a dummy for the past ten minutes. You're starting to make me feel like I'm boring"
I laughed. I like this girl already
She gave a hand towel to wipe my face
"What's got your head in he clouds?" She asked
"Oh nothing"
"Liar! You've been stating at Darren since forever"
I sighed not knowing what to say
When Riley caught me staring at him, he scowled then packed his food and left the cafeteria
"See!" Molly said dramatically throwing her hands up in the air "you scared the poor boy away"
I couldn't help but laugh. This girl is hilarious. She just lightened my mood
"Seriously, what's on your mind?" Molly asked "is it about Riley? Did something happen between you two"
I couldn't tell her about what happened today because it seemed private plus I didn't even know her well enough
"It's just... He keeps ignoring me" I said
"So? Ignore him as well"
"I can't. He lives right next to me"
She laughed
"Haha, now I can see why you're catching feelings. You probably see him naked all the time right?"
"I am not catching feelings and no I don't see him naked I've only seen him shirtless twice"
"You're so boring, if I lived next to Riley I'd take pictures of him all the time"
"Yesterday his mom told me to keep an eye on him"
"You talk to his mom too? This is great"
"Stop it Molly"
This girl probably couldn't be serious for a while
"Okay okay I'm listening"
"She told me he didn't have any friends and I should try to get through him"
She chuckled
"Good luck with that"
"Molly. Not helping"
"If I were you, I'd just leave him alone. Rumours say he's mentally unstable. He could hurt you"
My mind went back to his words this morning
"You don't need to know anything. Just stay away from me if not you won't like my reaction next time. I can hurt you"

That day, when I got home I saw a police car in my lawn
My dad was talking to a police man outside
My heart skipped a beat when I saw them. Were they on to us? But how?
We just got here
After a while, the policeman drove off and left
"You look like you've seen a ghost" my dad teased
"What is it?"
"Relax. They heard we just moved in so he came to find out about me. Asked my occupation and all that formal stuff. I even invited him to search the house"
I put my hand on my chest sighing in relief
"Stop worrying kid. We'll be alright"
