CHAPTER SEVENTEEN At the end of the day, Gabe stood on the sidewalk and watched Andy board the school bus. When she turned and waved at him, his face burned hotter than a campfire. At least he thought she aimed her arm in his direction. He couldn’t tell for sure. No matter. Maybe he’d go visit her sometimes. He snapped his fingers. “Dang! I forgot to ask where she lived.” He ran toward the bus, hollering, “Wait, wait, Andy. What’s your address?” Too late. The bus pulled away from the curb, and he stood arm waving in the air as it vanished from view.
