CHAPTER TWENTY After supper, Gabe sat beneath the giant pecan tree in his backyard, arms wrapped around his propped-up legs, and replayed events of the afternoon. He studied a rabbit munching the grass. “What do you think, bunny? Did I do the right thing? I keep thinking I should have brought the girls home the minute the bullies showed up, instead of challenging them.” He chuckled and leaned back against the tree trunk. “On the other hand, if we had run away like scared rabbits…” He glanced at the bunny still eating. “No offense meant to you, but I would have missed the bravery of my sister and Elena.
