CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN
Chatter and laughter greeted Gabe and Lindy the next morning when they entered the school. Students rushed past them, some with their heads down busy texting, others talking with friends. Several girls clapped their hands and sang the school’s fight song. Everyone seemed excited, and he could not figure out why. “What the heck is going on?” he yelled to be heard above the shouting and cheering voices.
Lindy’s face crinkled up in a grin. “I know! I know!”
Of course, she never missed an event at school unless it cost too much. He, on the other hand, hadn’t a clue. “Okay! Tell me!”
“All right!” she shouted to be heard above the noise. “Homecoming queen and king have been selected. Yay.”
“Queen? King? Homecoming?” He scratched his head. “Oh! I forgot about it.”
