For a second, I hesitated, waiting for her to invite me. But it was as if she had read my mind. “I’m sorry, Cyrilla,” she said, sounding genuinely regretful. “I’ll be supervising the whole event, so I can’t bring you along.” I waved a hand dismissively. “Don’t worry about me. I’m not really fond of parties,” I reassured her. And it was true—well, mostly. I wasn’t interested in attending, but the idea of being invited would have been nice.
