CHAPTER 13: ONE SOUL, TWO BODIES
The magic was still smoking on Drayk’s back.
Veyron laughed. “That’s the vampire king?
How disappointing.”
He lifted his hand. Another spell forming.
“Aim for both of them this time.”
Lithia didn’t think.
The bond between her and Drayk was screaming.
Pain. His pain. In her chest.
But underneath it — something else.
A door. Wide open.
She grabbed it.
Golden light burst from Lithia’s skin.
Hot. Blinding.
Veyron’s spell hit the light and shattered.
The 2 remaining scouts screamed and fell back.
Veyron hissed. “Golden blood. So that’s your trick.”
He looked at Drayk on his knees. Then at Lithia glowing.
“Tch. Not worth it today.”
He vanished into black smoke. “This isn’t over, brother.”
Silence.
The light faded from Lithia.
She dropped to her knees next to Drayk.
“Hey. Hey, look at me.”
Drayk’s eyes opened. Red. Dull.
Blood on his lips.
“...You glow,” he said. Dumb. Honest.
“Shut up.” Lithia’s hands were shaking.
She pressed them to the wound on his back.
Golden blood met golden blood.
The bond exploded.
Suddenly she could feel EVERYTHING.
His pain. His exhaustion.
And underneath, buried so deep:
*Relief. She’s alive. She’s alive.*
Drayk gasped.
He grabbed her wrist. Hard.
“Stop. What are you—”
“Shh.” Lithia ignored him. Tears on her face.
“Let me. Please.”
The gold from her hands sank into him.
His breathing evened out.
The wound closed. Slowly.
When it was done, Drayk pulled back.
Stared at her.
Really stared.
For 3 seconds the mask was gone.
Just him. Tired. And something warm in his eyes.
Then he stood.
Cold again.
“We leave. Now.”
He didn’t offer his hand.
“Can you walk?”
Lithia nodded. Legs shaky.
Drayk turned. Started walking.
But he didn’t go 3 steps ahead.
He stayed right next to her.
And through the bond, she felt it:
The brick wall was cracked.
Just a little.
He didn’t say thank you.
But he didn’t let go of her hand when they started moving.
