I snapped back into awareness with a scream as I tried to make sense of my surroundings. “Hey, you’re in my car- you’re safe,” Evander reassured me evenly as I tried to release the panic from my body. “Where are we going?” I croaked. “The pack house, we’re nearly there,” he murmured as we took a final turn onto the long driveway I had driven up once before. The stately house loomed in the shadows ahead. “My brother,” I finally remembered, and my throat closed as I realized he was probably freaked out. He passed me his phone, “Let him know you’re safe and I will take you back when you are well.” I swallowed, a bitter voice in my head claimed I would never be “well” again. Ignoring it, I sent Fritz a text and asked him to apologize to Ariel for me and then I passed him back the phone
