Chapter Five It was already three in the morning and she was still up. For the past couple of weeks, he had been coming home early in the morning and when she woke up he was gone again. They never meet these days and that made her worse about herself more than ever. It also made her realized that he was serious about them marrying for the baby growing inside her. That was all for her, nothing more. She cried it to her sleep and told herself that she didn’t need him to comfort her. But just as she feared, she was slowly defending on him which didn’t help her case. The ground beneath her seemed to turn shallow, threatening to suck her in. There was nothing solid she could onto at the moment and she missed her baby brother and their mom. “It’s not good for you to be still up, Mrs. Ma—Rollins,” Pedro appeared out of nowhere, he didn’t look like he slept himself either. Jessica wiped at the tears on her cheeks with the back of her hand, hating that she looked so fragile in front of a strong man like him. He would think her too soft and wondered what gotten into Anthony to marry her. It wasn’t best of her to be thinking the worst of people which she hated the most. Taking a couple of deep breaths, she said, “I’m waiting for Anthony.” “Might as well not, ma’am. He won’t be home until next week.” Her head snapped to him, “What?” Pedro looked uncomfortable under her accusing stare, she couldn’t help it. “He’s busy dealing with the company ma’am. He told me to inform you and not wait for him to get home.” “Why didn’t he tell me himself?” Pedro didn’t say a thing and it frustrated her not knowing. She wasn’t a pig here to be fed just to be discarded later. If he was keeping a side dish, then hell to it. She wouldn’t stick around like a doormat to be stepped all over him and his snob harem. “Drop me off in my apartment tomorrow morning, Pedro. I can’t stay here for another day.” She was numb from being pushed around. Her mom raised her better than this. “This is why he didn’t want me to tell you right away,” Pedro said more to himself than to her. “Don’t cover up for your boss if it’s wrong, Pedro. This world doesn’t need any more liars, don’t add up to it.” With that bitter parting, Jessica turned her back and quickly walk up the stairs. * The next morning, Jessica felt all kind of worse. What she said to Pedro wasn’t fair, he shouldn’t have taken her brunt. After practicing what she was going to say to him in the bathroom, what little things she had was packed already. She had her fingers crossed that he would see that she was really sorry. Convinced that she got it together, she pulled the carry-on she brought in the mansion when Pedro stopped her. He silently took her bag. Jessica saw the opportunity to say her apology. “Can I make it up for my ugly attitude last night, Pedro?” she said in a tiny voice. He gave her a sideways glance. “Don’t do this to Mr. Rollins and you’re forgiven.” “Anything but that.” “I understand,” he said curtly. “Come on, don’t be like this. You know I can’t do that.” “There’s no need to make up for anything, ma’am.” “How about breakfast?” “I already have mine but thank you for offering.” “Lunch then?” “I am on a duty during that time, ma’am. Truly, there’s nothing to—“ “I insist,” she was relentless. Then, “Okay, how about checking up on me once I’m back in my apartment?” Jessica knew that he would report that she’s gone as soon as she settled back in her apartment. Might as well make it easy for him. “That would better, ma’am.” She smiled. At least that one she accomplished. Jessica never like to leave a bad memory of her except this one. It was totally necessary, she needed time to think and that would only happen when she’s far away from here. * Her apartment was kept clean and she had her suspicion that Pedro got here before her. She appreciated it as much as she hated it. Once again, her privacy was crossed. Nevertheless, she easily fell back into her old routine except this time, she kept up with her meal. She came to her senses that her baby depended on her now. Mom wouldn’t appreciate it if she did badly in motherhood. Speaking of… Jessica had been meaning to call them which was a good idea right about now. Picking up her phone from the table where she left it, she dialed the familiar number. It rang three times before Julian picked up. “Hello?” “Hello baby,” she smiled on the phone, emotion clogged her throat. “Jess?” “Yes, where’s mom?” “She’s in her room. Where are you now? Do you know that we live in a beautiful house now? There’s yummy food as well and I don’t get bully anymore.” She bit her lower lip to stop herself from crying right then and there. The last thing she needed was her baby brother to worry. The sound of her mom asking who’s he’s talking to was faint in the background. “It’s Jess, ma.” It was scratchy on the other side for a while then her mom’s voice came in the line. “Jessica?” “Mom…” her voice came out broken. “Oh, my sweet, sweet, Jess. What’s wrong?” She sniffled, “I miss you both that’s why.” “Is that all? Do you want to tell me something, daughter?” Jessica knew that she could be open about anything to her but she didn’t want to worry her. Not when she just came out of the hospital. It didn’t help that she hadn’t informed her that she was with a child and married. Now alone again by herself because the man she married was on the other side of the world doing heaven knew what. “I plan to see you both soon.” “We missed you this Christmas. You’ve been working too hard, darling. You should come home after the break.” That only made her cry harder although she knew that she meant well. “I didn’t mean to upset you, Jessica. We just miss you so much. Your brother’s dying to let you see the house you bought for us.” “Mom, about that…” she trailed, unsure whether she could break the news on the phone. Jessica had been thinking of moving them out of that house and bringing back the money he gave her. She wasn’t a paid mother for his child. Her baby was hers too and providing for her or he was her obligation as a mother. She didn’t need him. “The house is not mine—“ “Damn right it’s yours.” Anthony strode towards her and snatched the phone from her. “Hi ma’am. I’m sorry to be making this introduction to you this way…” Jessica tried to take back the phone but he was fending her off without being rough. The more he talked, the mortified she become. When he clicked the end button, she was already on the floor, sobbing. It was all over for her, even her mom would loathe her now. She huddled in the corner, hugging her tightly. Anthony got on his knee, looking like hell. His bloodshot eyes stared at her unblinking. “Why the hell every time I come home looking for you, I’ll always find you gone, Jessica.” “Don’t you start me with your bullshit, Anthony. We both know that you’re out with your mistress while I stayed in your palace like a f*****g damsel in distress!” Furious, he clenched his fists, his knuckles turned white. “What do you want me to do to make you see, Jessica? What the hell do you want from me?” “Leave me be.” “You know I can’t do that.” “I’m not a puppet to bend to your every will, Anthony. So quit this game because it won’t go anywhere.” “I’m not playing a game here. I just came from work and then I found you gone. What do you want me to do? Let the mother of my child fend for herself?” “Stop slapping that on my face! I’m not one of your useless bimbos.” “I didn’t say that,” he snapped. “You don’t have to,” she fired back. “Why do you even have to go back here? What, your mistress not good enough—“ Anthony pulled her to him and molded their lips together, the fight in her left her, turning her into a puddle in his arms. He hiked her legs up his waist and led them to her couch. When he pulled away, it was to take a quick intake of breath and started kissing her again. He slid his hand up and down her legs then to her crotch. He pulled her boyleg underwear to the side and ran a finger down her slit. “I will make love to you until you know that you’re the only woman in my life. The one who had me hurrying home to share every moment with.” “Stop.” “You’re asking me the impossible.” She bit her bottom lip to keep herself from saying the word she’d been dying to hear. It surely wouldn’t come from her first. Anthony had another idea. He pulled back and stripped out of his clothes quickly. With her, he was patient to slide her out of her dress. He cupped a heavy a breast, needing his attention in there. He didn’t disappoint. She gripped his shoulder as he lapped on her n****e, his fingers busy sliding in her slick hole. Jessica didn’t realize that she needed him this bad until now. And when he thumbed her c**t, she was thrown off the edge, her world came undone. Barely recovered, he turned her on her knees and entered her from behind. Anthony lifted one leg up, making her even open access to him. This way, he was sliding in better. She hadn’t done anything extreme as this and she had to admit, it was unbelievable. Why he hadn’t done this her before, she didn’t know. “I’ve been thinking about this, and the position I want to take you. I want to make a memory in every place with you, Jessica and remember it for the rest of our lives with you by my side,” he whispered in her ears. “I want to plant my seed in you again and again because you’re mine. This is mine,” he cupped her breast. “And this is the fruit of our love,” he cupped her belly. “I love you and I would kill myself first before I hurt you.” She was about to admit her feelings for him when she felt the familiar fluttering in her belly. Her walls clenched around him. “Come for me, baby.” Jessica did, claiming her unspoken love for him until she was wrung dry. Anthony soon followed, grunting his release, marking her in her neck. She came again and again until her legs turned to jelly. He supported her throughout. Beyond exhausted, both of them lay on the couch, breathing hard. The air smelled of their passion and sweat. Anthony brushed her hair away from her sticky forehead and leaned to kiss her. “You had taken my breath away in the club. I knew when I first saw you with those two I would have you as my wife. I didn’t expect to be blessed with our first child right away and I’m sorry for putting you in this situation. But that didn’t mean I’m not grateful because I am so much that I can’t put it to words.” “Promise me one more thing.” “Tell me and I will do my best.” “Stop making me fall even deeper in love for you. I don’t want to become a shade of your shadow.” “I’ll try my best, sweetheart. I will, I promise you that.” She burrowed deeper in his arms, “Thank you.” “You don’t love me?” She smiled in his chest, “You stole the moment from me.” He laughed, a deep rumbling noise in her ears, oddly relaxing. “Alright, pretend I didn’t interrupt.” Instead of using words, she kissed where his heart was. Contented, they fell asleep.
