The school's main hall buzzed with excitement as students gathered for a special assembly. The principal, Mr. Collins, stood on the stage, his authoritative presence commanding the attention of every student. **Principal Collins:** (clearing his throat) Good morning, students. I have an exciting announcement for you today. Our school has arranged a special student exchange program with Butterfly School in California. If any of you are interested in applying for this program, please see your homeroom teacher for the application forms. There will be a test, and the student with the highest marks will be selected for the exchange. This is a fantastic opportunity to broaden your horizons and experience a new culture. A ripple of excitement spread through the hall as students began to whisper and discuss the opportunity. Raina's eyes sparkled with interest, while Tamrin, standing beside her, seemed less enthusiastic. Back in their homeroom, the teacher, Ms. Anderson, handed out the application forms to interested students. **Ms. Anderson:** (smiling) Alright, class. If you're interested in the student exchange program, come and get a form. Remember, only the top scorer on the test will be selected. Raina quickly raised her hand, along with a few other students, including Maddie, one of her classmates. Tamrin watched her with a frown, his mind racing. **Tamrin:** (whispering) Wait, what? Raina, you can't leave. **Raina:** (surprised) Why not? **Tamrin:** (desperately) We have a project to do. We're partners. I can't work with someone new. **Raina:** (smiling) The project is due next week, Tamrin. Besides, I could really use the money. **Tamrin:** (confused) Money? **Raina:** (whispering) We'll talk about it later. Tamrin nodded reluctantly, his worry evident. During the break, Tamrin took Raina's hand and led her to an abandoned room on the rooftop. It was a quiet place, away from the hustle and bustle of the school. **Raina:** (curious) Why did you bring me here? **Tamrin:** (softly) This is my go-to place when I need to think. No one else comes here, and it has the best view. Raina looked out the window and smiled at the beautiful scenery. The view of the city skyline and the distant mountains was breathtaking. **Tamrin:** (serious) Why do you want to transfer to Butterfly School, Raina? Raina sighed, her expression turning somber. **Raina:** (softly) I don’t know my real parents, Tamrin. My adoptive parents found me and took me in. They don't have much money, so when they heard about this government program that covers all the expenses for a human to attend a monster academy, they enrolled me here. It’s an experiment to see if humans and monsters can coexist and work together. If I go to Butterfly School, it’s another opportunity for me, and it would help my family financially. Tamrin listened quietly, his heart aching for her. **Tamrin:** (softly) I understand now. But... are you sure you want to go? Raina forced a smile, trying to lighten the mood. **Raina:** (teasing) Are you sad that I might leave? Tamrin blushed, his face turning red. **Tamrin:** (flustered) Nope, I’m happy for you. Really, I am. Raina laughed softly, enjoying his reaction. **Raina:** (grinning) Well, I’m going to the washroom. Tamrin watched her leave, feeling a mix of emotions. He didn't want her to go, but he understood her reasons. As Raina walked down the hall, she felt a strange mix of excitement and sadness. The thought of studying in a foreign country was thrilling, but leaving behind her friends, especially Tamrin, was hard to think about. When she returned, she found Tamrin still in the abandoned room, looking out at the view. She approached him slowly. **Raina:** (softly) Tamrin, about earlier... Before she could finish, the bell rang, signaling the end of the break. They both sighed, knowing their conversation would have to wait. Later that day, during lunch, Raina found herself cornered by a group of girls led by Yuka. They had been spreading rumors and making her life difficult ever since she announced her interest in the exchange program. **Yuka:** (mockingly) So, Raina, think you're too good for us now? Planning to run away to California? Raina tried to ignore them and walk away, but they blocked her path. **Raina:** (firmly) Move aside, Yuka. I don't have time for this. Yuka shoved her, causing her to stumble. **Yuka:** (angrily) You're not going anywhere until you learn your place. Before Raina could react, Tamrin, Jacob, and Edward appeared, their expressions dark with anger. **Tamrin:** (coldly) Back off, Yuka. Now. Yuka and her g**g looked startled but tried to stand their ground. **Jacob:** (smirking) Unless you want to mess with all of us. Edward's eyes glinted dangerously, his vampire side barely contained. **Edward:** (calmly) Leave her alone. This is your last warning. Yuka and her group reluctantly backed off, casting hateful glances at Raina as they walked away. **Raina:** (relieved) Thank you, guys. I don't know what I would’ve done without you. **Tamrin:** (softly) We're here for you, Raina. Always. Raina smiled, feeling grateful for her friends' unwavering support. After her conversation with Tamrin, Raina heads to the bathroom, her thoughts still occupied with the exchange program and her friends. As she enters, she hears a group of girls gossiping by the sinks. **Girl 1:** (whispering) Did you hear about Maddie? She's getting bullied again. **Girl 2:** (concerned) Yeah, it's awful. I heard they cornered her during lunch. Raina's eyes widen in shock. **Maddie? Like my classmate?** She quickly washes her hands and leaves the bathroom, her mind racing. Determined to help, she approaches the girls she overheard. **Raina:** (urgently) Excuse me, is it true that Maddie is getting bullied? **Girl 1:** (nodding) Yes, it's terrible. They won't leave her alone. Without another word, Raina hurries off to find Maddie, her heart pounding with a mix of anger and determination. Raina arrives just in time to see Maddie being harassed by a group of bullies near the lockers. Maddie looks terrified, her back pressed against the cold metal. **Bully 1:** (mockingly) You think you can just sign up for the exchange program and escape us? **Bully 2:** (sneering) You're not going anywhere, loser. Raina steps forward, her voice ringing out loud and clear. **Raina:** (angrily) Hey, stop it! Leave her alone! The bullies turn to face her, their expressions filled with disdain. **Bully 1:** (scoffing) What are you going to do about it, little b*tch? Raina's eyes narrow, her hands balling into fists. **Raina:** (fiercely) How about I kick your f**king a*s? The bullies growl, their anger flaring. Just as they start to move towards her, Tamrin, Jacob, and Edward appear behind Raina, their presence intimidating. **Tamrin:** (coldly) You heard her. Back off. **Jacob:** (smirking) Unless you want to deal with us. **Edward:** (calmly) This is your last warning. The bullies hesitate for a moment before turning and running away, clearly outmatched. Raina breathes a sigh of relief and turns to Maddie, who is visibly shaken. **Raina:** (softly) Are you okay, Maddie? Maddie nods, tears streaming down her face. Raina gently leads her to a nearby bench and sits down with her, offering her a comforting hug. **Maddie:** (sobbing) I signed up for the exchange program because I wanted to get away from the bullies. I thought it would be my chance to be happy. Raina's heart aches for her friend. She holds Maddie tightly, her own eyes welling up with tears. **Raina:** (soothingly) It’s okay, Maddie. You did the right thing. You deserve to be happy, and you’re brave for taking that step. Later, in class, the teacher stands at the front with a list of names for the student exchange program. **Teacher:** (smiling) I have the results for the student exchange program. The student who will be going to Butterfly School is... Maddie. The class erupts in applause, and Maddie's face lights up with joy and relief. Tamrin looks at Raina in surprise, then smiles, realizing what she has done. Raina catches his eye and gives a small nod. **Tamrin:** (whispering) You withdrew your form, didn’t you? **Raina:** (smiling) Yes. Maddie deserves to be happy. After class, Tamrin catches up with Raina in the hallway. **Tamrin:** (softly) Raina, why did you do it? You had a chance to go, to experience something new. **Raina:** (smiling) I realized that Maddie needed it more than I did. Besides, I have everything I need here. Tamrin's eyes soften, and he pulls Raina into a hug, holding her tightly. **Tamrin:** (whispering) You're amazing, Raina. Thank you. Raina hugs him back, feeling a sense of peace and fulfillment. That evening, as Raina lay in her bed, she thought about the day's events. She felt a deep sense of satisfaction knowing that she had helped a friend in need. Her decision to withdraw from the exchange program wasn't just about giving up an opportunity; it was about making a difference in someone's life. She glanced at her phone, seeing a message from Maddie. **Maddie's Message:** Thank you, Raina. You’ve given me hope. Raina smiled, feeling content. She had made the right choice, and she knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, she had the strength and support of her friends to face them.
