Life Without Memory

2115 Words
Tamrin sits beside Raina’s hospital bed, holding her hand gently as she stirs awake. The doctor enters the room with a clipboard in hand. **Doctor:** (calmly) Tamrin, Raina’s memory loss is likely temporary, but it’s important that we help her regain her memories by sharing significant events and experiences with her. Familiar places, faces, and stories might trigger her recall. **Tamrin:** (nodding) I’ll do whatever it takes to help her remember. Later, Tamrin returns to Raina’s room, carrying a tray with food. He places it on the bedside table and sits down beside her. **Raina:** (curious) How do you know me? **Tamrin:** (softly) We’ve known each other for a while now. We’ve been through a lot together. **Raina:** (frowning) How did I end up in the hospital? **Tamrin:** (hesitant) You were taken hostage. It was… a terrifying experience, but you were incredibly brave. **Raina:** (puzzled) Hostage? Why would anyone take me hostage? **Tamrin:** (sighing) It’s a long story, but the important thing is that you’re safe now. Raina suddenly winces, clutching her head as a sharp pain shoots through it. **Tamrin:** (concerned) Raina, are you okay? **Raina:** (wincing) Just a headache. It’s fine… I think. **Tamrin:** (gently) Try to rest. I’ll go get something for you to eat. After Tamrin leaves to get food, Raina closes her eyes, trying to sleep. A shadowy figure silently enters the room, moving towards her with a knife drawn. Just as the figure is about to strike, Jacob and Edward burst into the room, subduing the attacker. **Jacob:** (angrily) Not on our watch! **Edward:** (worried) Raina, are you alright? Raina, still dazed from the sudden attack, nods weakly. A few minutes later, Tamrin rushes into the room, carrying a bag of food. He sees the blood on the floor and realizes the danger. **Tamrin:** (panicked) What happened? **Raina:** (anxiously) Are you okay? You’re bleeding! Tamrin looks at his hand, which is cut and bleeding heavily. **Tamrin:** (downplaying) It’s nothing. Just a scratch. **Raina:** (insisting) Someone call the nurse! **Tamrin:** (holding her hand) I’m fine, Raina. Don’t worry. Suddenly, Tamrin pulls Raina into his arms and kisses her deeply, just as he did the last time he was injured. Raina gasps in shock, a sudden flash of memory hitting her—Tamrin kissing her after a fight. She pulls away, staring at him in confusion. **Raina:** (confused) Why did you kiss me… again? **Tamrin:** (surprised) What did you say? **Raina:** (frowning) You kissed me before… didn’t you? **Tamrin:** (realizing) You remember that? **Raina:** (unsure) I… I think so. It’s just a glimpse, but it feels real. Tamrin is shocked but also hopeful, realizing that recreating past incidents might help restore her memories. Just then, Edward and Jacob return with the nurse, who tends to Tamrin’s wound while keeping an eye on Raina. A few days later, Raina is discharged from the hospital. Tamrin is there to help her out, leading her to the dormitory. As they approach the building, Raina stops, looking confused. **Raina:** (surprised) Wait… I’m living in the boys’ dorm? **Tamrin:** (smiling) Yeah. It’s a long story, but don’t worry—you’re safe with us. **Raina:** (nervously) But… what will people think? **Tamrin:** (grinning) Let them think what they want. Besides, you’ve got me, Edward, and Jacob looking out for you. Raina nods, still trying to piece everything together. As they enter the dorm, she notices how comfortable she feels despite the unfamiliarity. In the dorm, Tamrin, Edward, and Jacob help Raina settle into her space. She’s still shocked by the idea of living with boys but is too tired to protest. As she unpacks, she finds small items that feel familiar but she can't quite place. **Raina:** (curious) How long have I been living here? **Tamrin:** (hesitating) Not too long. We’ll help you remember everything. **Jacob:** (grinning) Just make sure to follow the rules Tamrin laid down. He’s a stickler for them, especially the one about giving each other space. **Tamrin:** (embarrassed) Jacob, shut up. **Raina:** (smiling) Space, huh? You mean like this? (She teasingly steps close to Tamrin.) **Jacob:** (mockingly) Yeah, Tamrin, you should be the first one to follow that rule. Raina laughs at their banter, feeling a warmth she can’t explain. As the evening wears on, the four of them settle into a comfortable routine, and for the first time since waking up, Raina feels a glimmer of hope that her memories might return Later that night, Raina lies in bed, staring up at the ceiling. Her mind races with fragmented memories and the faces of the boys who have become her protectors. She closes her eyes, hoping that sleep will bring more pieces of her past back to her. Meanwhile, Tamrin sits by the window in the living room, staring out into the night. He’s determined to help Raina remember everything, but deep down, he’s terrified of losing her again—especially now that she’s starting to remember. **Tamrin:** (whispering) I’ll help you remember, Raina. I promise. As the night deepens, a sense of calm settles over the dormitory, but the lingering threat of V.A. remains in the back of their minds. The battle to recover Raina’s memories has only just begun, and with it, the fight to protect her from the dangers that still lurk in the shadows. The first rays of the morning sun peek through the curtains as Raina slowly opens her eyes. The dorm is quiet, the soft sounds of the boys' breathing indicating they’re still asleep. She carefully slips out of bed, not wanting to wake them, and stretches before deciding to explore a bit. Raina notices that Tamrin isn’t in the room. Curious, she decides to search for him. As she quietly walks through the dormitory halls, she feels an odd sense of familiarity, like she’s done this before. Her feet lead her to the staircase, and she climbs up to the rooftop. When Raina pushes open the door to the rooftop, she’s greeted by a cool morning breeze. The sun is just starting to rise, casting a golden hue over the city. There, leaning against the railing, is Tamrin. He’s deep in thought, staring out at the horizon with a contemplative expression on his face. Raina hesitates for a moment, unsure if she should interrupt, but something compels her to step forward. **Raina:** (softly) Tamrin? Tamrin turns around, surprised to see her. His expression softens when he realizes it’s her. **Tamrin:** (smiling slightly) You’re up early. **Raina:** (shrugging) I couldn’t sleep. I noticed you weren’t in the room… and I guess I just followed my instincts. **Tamrin:** (nodding) I come up here sometimes when I need to clear my head. It’s… peaceful. Raina walks over to the railing and stands beside him, looking out at the view. The city looks beautiful from up here, and for a moment, they both just enjoy the silence. **Raina:** (breaking the silence) This place… it feels familiar. Like I’ve been here before. **Tamrin:** (glancing at her) You have. We’ve been up here a few times. You always said it was one of your favorite spots. **Raina:** (smiling faintly) I can see why. It’s beautiful. They fall into a comfortable silence again, but Raina can sense there’s something on Tamrin’s mind. **Raina:** (gently) What are you thinking about? **Tamrin:** (sighing) Just… everything that’s happened. I’m worried about you, Raina. I hate that you’re going through this. **Raina:** (reassuringly) I’m okay, Tamrin. I know it’s frustrating not remembering everything, but… I feel like I’m getting pieces back, slowly. **Tamrin:** (nodding) I noticed. Yesterday, when you remembered that kiss… I was shocked. But it gave me hope that you’ll remember everything soon. **Raina:** (teasingly) You’re not just kissing me to help me remember, are you? **Tamrin:** (smirking) Well, if it works… I might have to keep doing it. They both laugh, the tension easing slightly. Raina feels a warmth in her chest, a feeling she can’t quite explain but knows is tied to Tamrin. **Raina:** (softly) Thank you, Tamrin. For everything. **Tamrin:** (seriously) You don’t have to thank me, Raina. I’m just glad you’re here. That you’re safe. Raina looks at him, seeing the sincerity in his eyes. After their conversation on the rooftop, Raina decides it's time to head back inside. As she turns to leave, her foot catches on the edge of a loose tile. She stumbles, and before she can react, she feels herself falling. But before she hits the ground, Tamrin's arms catch her. **Raina:** (gasping) Oh! Tamrin pulls her up swiftly, holding her close for a moment longer than necessary. Their eyes meet, and for a split second, time seems to stand still. Raina’s heart races as another fragmented memory flashes before her eyes—a scene of Tamrin catching her in a similar situation and apologizing before leaning in to kiss her. **Raina:** (whispering) Tamrin… Tamrin’s eyes widen slightly, as if he senses she’s remembering something. His grip on her tightens momentarily, and he leans in as if on instinct, his face just inches from hers. **Tamrin:** (softly) I’m sorry, Raina… He almost closes the distance between them, but suddenly, he stops himself. Tamrin pulls back, clearing his throat awkwardly. **Tamrin:** (nervously) Let’s get inside before you trip again. Raina nods, still a bit dazed from the rush of the memory and the intensity of the moment. They walk back inside together, the unspoken tension lingering in the air. The next day, Tamrin walks Raina to class, showing her the way to her classroom and pointing out where she usually sits. **Tamrin:** (pointing) That’s your seat, right next to the window. You always liked sitting there because of the view. Raina takes in the familiar setting, trying to connect the dots in her mind. It’s like seeing a puzzle with pieces missing, but some of them are slowly starting to fall into place. As they enter the classroom, a girl with vibrant energy and a wide smile rushes over and pulls Raina into a tight hug. **Riku:** (excitedly) Raina! Oh my gosh, I missed you so much! Raina stiffens in confusion, not recognizing the girl holding her so tightly. She glances at Tamrin, who gives her a reassuring look. **Tamrin:** (gently) Riku, she doesn’t remember everything yet. Give her some time. Riku pulls back, her face falling for a moment before she forces a smile. **Riku:** (softly) Right… I’m your best friend, Raina. We’ve been through a lot together. But don’t worry, I’ll help you remember everything! Raina tries to smile back, though she feels a pang of guilt for not recognizing someone who clearly cares so much about her. **Raina:** (awkwardly) I’m sorry, Riku… I’ll do my best to remember. Before the conversation can go any further, a student from the back of the classroom throws a pen in Raina’s direction. Instinctively, Raina’s hand shoots out and catches it mid-air. She stares at the pen in her hand, surprised at her own reflexes. Another flash of memory hits her—this time of her in the same classroom, reacting quickly to catch something thrown at her during a previous incident. **Tamrin:** (angrily) Hey! What’s your problem? He glares at the student who threw the pen, his eyes narrowing dangerously. The student shrinks back under Tamrin’s intense gaze, muttering an apology. **Student:** (nervously) Sorry… it was just a joke. Tamrin doesn’t seem appeased, but he turns his attention back to Raina, his expression softening. **Tamrin:** (concerned) Are you okay? **Raina:** (distracted) Yeah, I’m fine. It’s just… I think I remembered something. Tamrin’s eyes widen slightly, hope flickering in his expression. **Tamrin:** (eagerly) What did you remember? **Raina:** (slowly) I remember… catching something, like just now. I was sitting in this classroom, and someone threw something at me… I caught it without thinking. Riku’s eyes light up, and she claps her hands together excitedly. **Riku:** (cheerfully) That’s great, Raina! See? Your memories are coming back bit by bit! Raina smiles faintly, feeling a mix of emotions. The memory was small, but it was something—a sign that her past wasn’t completely lost to her. **Raina:** (determined) Yeah… I guess they are. As she takes her seat by the window, she glances over at Tamrin, who’s watching her closely. He gives her an encouraging nod, and she feels a surge of confidence. **Raina:** (thinking to herself) Maybe I can do this… maybe I can get my memories back. The class begins, and Raina tries to focus, though her mind keeps drifting to the fragments of memories that are slowly resurfacing. With every little piece that comes back, she feels closer to uncovering the truth of who she is—and what she means to the people around her.
