46 So close, Luther thought. And yet they weren’t, and that was the problem. They were back where they started. Nowhere. Grant had sent Luther back to Beecham County while he coordinated something else that would come to nothing. Luther felt hollowed out inside. He just wished he knew if the boy were still alive. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d been really drunk, but right now he wanted nothing more than to get totally s**t-faced. Hammered. Smashed.
