CHAPTER 11 About 4pm that evening, Daisy Lara and her mother had just about finished unpacking three paper bags of groceries from Johnson’s Foods. Mrs. Lara preferred Johnson’s even though it stood about a mile from their home in the suburbs. She did their regular shopping at Johnson’s as it was a “cleaner” facility with the “better” crowd than the A&P just down the street, as she had explained to Daisy. But on occasion she made the exception and forced herself to the A&P to pick up a missing item or two, as she had when they ran into Little Joe the other day. The kitchen was spotless as were the shelves themselves orderly. And in no time, the boxes and packages of food were transferred to their reserved spaces in the cabinets, refrigerator, and freezer.
