CHAPTER 29 The building rumbled underneath and all around them. The creeks in the floor above him from previous tremors now turned to rattles and jarring crunches of wood. In this last movement, one of the boards above broke in half and swung right in front of the boy’s head on the way down. If it had connected, that would have been it for him. Beyond him, in the courtyard of the praying well, the ceiling was caving in. Beams were hanging down half strapped to the ceiling, half hanging . Upstairs he could hear the echoes now of the building instead of the long lost souls. Things were not looking good – the place was teetering on the brink of collapse if these quakes continued and it wouldn’t be long now before the final one came. “We’re running out of time, Little Joe.” Exploded
