CHAPTER 2 Later that morning the boys got dressed and ready to go. Their mother had locked herself in her bedroom upstairs but the boys could hear her sobbing all the way downstairs. Little Joe had gone to try and comfort her, but the door remained locked – she wouldn’t let anybody in. Sal pondered for a moment if he should call his other Aunt, Carmen, who lived just down the block, to come and keep his mom company, but he decided against it. She needed her rest. He also pondered if they should stay home, but he couldn’t do that either. He was determined to see his dad for himself – and he was sure his dad would be happy to see them as well.
