“Well, there’s our missing daughter! Did hunger finally drive you back home?” Emery’s dad enveloped her in a hug. “I was beginning to worry that my old Jeep was not being very reliable and you were broken down somewhere.”
Emery’s face reddened. Despite her dad’s teasing tone, she couldn’t miss the look of concern on his face. Her mother hurried in from the kitchen.
