Chapter 31

2147 Words

Chapter 31Lina For a brief moment, Lina allowed herself to get lost in those eyes. Adele’s eyes, except Adele’s had been less troubled and more open to what the world, what life, might bring. Emery, despite her obvious richness—she had at least thirty different outfits and even owned an automobile, for heaven’s sake—seemed to be a lot more daunted and not at all secure in herself or her future. Granted, it sounded as if Emery was a woman who preferred other women, but if what Mandy had claimed was true, that was not a crime any longer. And while Lina suspected there would always be people, men especially, who frowned upon such unions, at least it wasn’t prosecuted. Now whether it was still persecuted, openly or in secret, Lina was curious about. One more item on her long ask-Emery list.
